Injuries continue pile up in San Diego

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 28, 2010 8:53 PM ET
The Chargers have issues.

They have the worst special teams in football by far, necessitating roster churning. They have a healthy Pro Bowler that is not allowed to play. They are on their 47th long snapper and now they have a host of other injured players taking up roster spots.

Outside linebacker Larry English underwent surgery on his foot Tuesday, the team announced. He's expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Fellow outside 'backer Shawne Merriman only played three snaps Sunday because of an Achilles injury.

Oh, and guard Louis Vasquez will miss a least two games with a MCL sprain, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego-Union Tribune.

Perhaps the biggest cause for optimism for the 1-2 Chargers is their schedule: They face Arizona, Oakland, and St. Louis over the next three weeks.

They are vulnerable even with DA at QB.

38-10 San Diego

Then 45-6 against the Saints.

And that will be the end of DA. Thankfully.

Saints have injury issues as well. Especially at running back. Of course that probably means the dreaded unknown 3rd stringer will come in and shred us for about 150 yards and a few TD's

I think SD and the saints could lose their entire first string to the flu and still crush the cards.

Too many potsers here are overestimating what 2 slim wins over St. Louis and Oakland means.

Exactly, this offers me no comfort whatsoever. As many times as the Cardinals have gone into a game where the superstars of the team aren't playing, sure enough we get torched by some scrub who has the game of his lifetime and we still lose. (Oh and that scrub is never heard from ever again.)

I don't know about SD right now. Hard to call them elite anymore when they lose to a couple of middle of the road teams like KC and Seattle. They might be as mediocre as we are - but with a better QB of course. With a few tipped balls and wacky bounces we may have a shot.

Expecting an ass whooping is the only way to live right now.

And boy do I expect to get throttled.

SD has taken a step back in the last year or two. SD is no longer in the Saints league. They are not the powerhouse that they once were. Although I do believe that SD will be very hard to beat in SD.

Even when SD is a powerhouse, they are beatable at the beginning of the year.

Interesting that the Cards are -8.5 dogs at SD while the 49ers are only -6.5 dogs at Atlanta. If I were Jeff The Shark I'd be running to the casino right now to put money on the Falcons.

Yeah, but something feels different this year to me. The Chargers have looked confused and disheveled. Last year they lost some games like the one in Denver when the refs totally screwed the pooch at the end of the game.

Falcons coming off a huge, emotional win over the Saints...Totally set-up for the inevitable let down...

Chargers coming off an upset loss at Seattle... Gonna be extremely angry and hungry to rigth the ship.

Or - it all boils down to Scud Anderson... ;)

Regrettably not the end of Whiz play calling however so not much chance of success with this one. He shouldn't be allowed to paddle a canoe much less captian this ship of fools. We blow on both sides of the ball. DC just plain sucks and Grimm needs to be held accountable for Oline play. None of the players are playing to potential. Thank god we played the Rams and Raiders or we would be 0-3 Hope LSH can score 3 times on special teams...he just might against the Bolts. Only chance we have.

i don't care what injuries they have. our O stinks and Rivers is going to throw for 300 and 4 TDs against out D which gets little to no pressure on the QB, can't cover the TE and got burned deep multiple times by the Raiders weak WR corp.

44-10... and I'll be there to witness it in person. Yay.
