He had both toes down first before his right foot rode up on top of his other foot; sad to say, I have a copy of the SuperBowl and have watched the play in disbelief 30+ times. Big Ben and Holmes just beat us, simple as that.
Thanks for the clarification. If Holmes did not have two toes down on the turf prior to the toe on toe part it could have had far reaching implications. Receivers are very good at getting both feet down in-bounds before going out of bounds with a catch. So a change in the ruling could have caused all kinds of shenanigans by receivers in the future by using foot on foot techniques before going out of bounds so it counts as a legal catch.
