The Iowa football program saw another spring transfer portal departure on Wednesday.
Defensive back Kahlil Tate announced his entrance into the portal on Wednesday night. The 5-foot-11, 197 pound defensive back didn't see any game action over his two seasons in Iowa City, though he was recognized with one of Iowa's Team Leader Awards during the 2023 season.
"First and foremost, I want to thank God for the opportunity that was given to me to play this sport. I also want to thank my family for being here every step of the way. I want to thank the University of Iowa and their coaching staff, strength staff, training staff for everything that they have done for me in these last two years. Also for giving me the chance to chase my dreams.
"To my teammates, thank you all for everything you've shown and helped me with. To the Doughboyz, every single last one of you have impacted me in positive ways, our brotherhood could never be broken. Love! With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility," Tate wrote in his social media announcement.
A product of Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Tate arrived in Iowa City as a three-star signee and as the No. 10 player from Illinois according to 247Sports.
Tate joins a group of recent Iowa transfer portal departures that includes tight end Gavin Hoffman, offensive lineman Joey VanWetzinga, quarterback Brendan Sullivan and cornerback John Nestor.
