The 2025 NFL draft is less than a month away, and it will be another year where an Iowa Hawkeyes All-American talent is going to come off the board to a team looking for that success to continue.
This year's top Hawkeye in the NFL draft is All-American and Big Ten Running Back of the Year Kaleb Johnson. He is set to be off the board at some point in the second round after bursting into the national spotlight with his historic, record-setting year for the Hawkeyes in 2024.
ESPN's latest mock draft sends Johnson to one of the most storied franchises, not just in the NFL, but the entire world, to start his NFL journey and have the opportunity to be a Week 1 starter.
Matt Miller of ESPN has the Dallas Cowboys selecting Kaleb Johnson in the second round of the NFL draft with the No. 44 pick overall.
The fit could not make more sense if you tried. The Cowboys were led by Rico Dowdle in the backfield last year, who has since departed in free agency, leaving running back as a gaping need for them that they will likely look to fill via the draft.
Tim Lester's offense, which features aspects of the zone scheme that is so prominent in the NFL, is something that Kaleb Johnson is intimately familiar with and succeeded in as evidenced by his year last year that ranks among the best ever by an Iowa running back.

44. Dallas Cowboys
Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
The Cowboys wait to add their running back and would get a powerful runner with great outside zone ability. The 6-foot-1, 224-pound Johnson rushed for 23 touchdowns in 2024 while adding 1,725 all-purpose yards. He is a slasher who loves to run downhill and will make defenders pay if they're in his path when he clears the line of scrimmage. Watching him run through and around tackles outside the box gives off vibes similar to former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray.
