Hubby recently got in iPhone from his employer; I have the LG Vu920. While both are touchscreen, the iPhone I think is more intuitive and the screen is much brighter. But I have more problems texting with the iPhone than with mine (maybe my thumbs are too big, lol)

The more recent iPhones now come with bluetooth but still no voice dialing.

I have discovered that you can "sort" of do a voice dialing. If you press *8, it gives you recorded info to go into att.com/voicedial and then you have to set your list of contacts (separate from the iphone contacts).

Then, you still have to press *8 first, then speak "call so-and-so"

Pretty underwhelming.

Any recommended free apps? I'm thinking of getting the one where you can use the phone as a flashlight. What else is good?

Samsung Omnia. 8 GB internal memory and Micro SD slot expandable up to 16 more gigs.

That's 24 Gigs of storage for MP3's. All with the power of Windows Mobile 6.1. Also included is a 5 megapixel camera, wifi, and a network that is rated best in class by JD Power, Consumer Reports, and Telephia.

And the coup de gras....... It's smaller, lighter, more durable and you can add insurance and an extended warranty for $5.99 per month on it.

It's the most feature packed phone in North America. Period.

Why do people use Verison? Yesterday my wife and I decided it was time to get new phones and like we do every other year, checked out the prices of all the cell companies available in our area. I wanted an IPhone or a G1, but I'm not gonna be forced to pay $25-30 a phone for data service that I would hardly use. Then I went to check out the Samsung Omnia at Verison. Nice phone, but not a chance I would switch to that company. The voice plan which is identical to ours at T-mobile is 3x as much and the data plan that's equal to T-mobile's is 2x as much. My work cell is Verison and I see absolutely no difference in quality. What is it that attracts people to that company?

#1 in customer service. Tmobile lost that crown last year.
#1 in Mobile2Mobile community - Tmobile is not close.
#1 in Network size. Tmobile is not close. Like 6th or something.
#1 in 3G Data network size.
#1 in money spent on Network each year even though they have been #1 for like 8 years in a row. Spent over 4 Billion last year in just Philly Tri-State.
The new Friends and Family deal blows T-Mobile's fave 5 out of the water for ease of use and flexibility.

In Store warranty and technical assistance from someone who is not a salesman.

Dude... T-Mobile should be compared to Sprint or Cricket. If you stay in one area, fine... but on a national scale they are worlds apart from AT&T or Verizon. T-Mobile and Sprint are losing customers at a 6 to 1 rate to the "Big 2". Soon, they will be absorbed. AT&T will work a deal with Deutsche Telecom (T-Mobile's Daddy) and Verizon will buy Sprint when they hit the bottom of the barrel.

The prices are so low at the bottom feeders because if they weren't no one would buy from them. lol Unlimited everything plans at Sprint are $100. Tmobile offers data plans cheaper.... etc....

But if you don't notice a difference then you may not care about any of that. Price is probably your only issue, and if you find no value in a higher level of service then it probably doesnt matter.

I'm not pumping any company, I could care less. All I care about is cost for the service I receive. But the fact is I have both and have seen no difference. Certainly I should see a huge difference when one bill is 3x the other, right? All those ratings are meaningless if I as a customer can't tell the difference. I've been all over the states with both phones the past few years and I can only remember one time camping that my verison phone had a signal where my tmobile didn't. Anyway, I don't care how folks spend their money, I was just curious as to why they would choose one over the other. Me, I'll stick with the "bottom feeder" rather than pay for ratings.

I don't know KloD; I've had Verizon and hated them with a fiery passion. They never had my bill right; did the same thing to my brother. He was constantly on the phone with them detailing how he was overbilled, etc. They even ADMITTED that his bill was hundreds too much, but would not change it. He told them to f off...I waited out my contract & was done with them as well.

I have Sprint now. They're no better. Hate them, hate them, hate them. They have screwed up my account for 5 solid months; each time it took me an hour or two on the phone to get them to 1) understand what they did wrong, and 2) get them to then fix it...and even then it still wasn't right. All because they failed to actually turn off service to my daughter's phone when I reported it stolen. Thank God they had in their notes that I did, in fact, report it stolen. It all snowballed from there. The last month I just didn't have it in me anymore to fight with them. I really didn't. It was affecting my blood pressure, my attitude, etc. I paid the overage, and it's been correct since. My contract with them is up in Sept. Not sure where I'm going next, but it won't be to Verizon...even if they have improved their customer service. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice....I won't get fooled again. /GWB

But back to topic.... The omnia is 10 times the phone. Especially when considering what you have to give up to get the iPhone.

Not worth it IMO.

Come on, where did you find those maps? They're not even close to being accurate according to each companies websites:

At&t:

Verison:

T-Mobile:

Sprint:

So I guess if you spend a lot of time driving the highways, Verison has better coverage. Otherwise, they all cover the same metro areas. Like I said, in 12+ years only 1x did I not get a signal and that was 6+ years ago.

What services support the Omnia? And what do you mean, what you have to give up to get the iPhone?

The Omnia is Verison. Maybe you can find one unlocked on ebay if you want to go with a different company? The iPhone is At&t and you have to pay for a data package along with the voice package. At&t charges $30 a month for their data package.

Verison's data packages are $55 a month for 5igs or $40 for 50megs. I don't know if the Omnia requires a data package or if you could just go without those features? I know the iphone requres the $30 data package, but that one is at least unlimited. The G1 from T-mobile is the only other one I know of that requires you to pay for a data package as well as a voice package.
