Just got back! PURE AWESOMENESS!
This really was well done. Post credits was funny and worth the wait.
RDJ is now done with is contractual obligation to play Tony Stark, but hinted that it is likely that he will don the suit one more time for Avengers 2. He made $50 million for Avengers alone. How much are they going to have to pony up to entice him back for the sequel, now that IM3 pretty much crushed all revenue projections?
Fanboys seem to be in a tizzy over how the movie handled the Mandarin (as referenced above).
Saw one guy post on Entertainment Weekly's site that he had prepped his 5-year-old with articles about the Mandarin's history, powers, etc, so that he'd be ready to understand the movie.
And I was just like, "Wait, when were nerds allowed out of their parents' basements to procreate?"
I figured that unhealthy of an obsession with comic books and girlfriends were mutually exclusive.
Took my younger son to see it, and we were both confused throughout the movie. Why did they keep referencing New York and aliens? What happened in New York, and what aliens?
MUCH better than Iron Man 2 and very close to surpassing 1, simply because the "demons" of Tony Stark are much more interesting than a man in an iron suit blowing everything up. Also like the fact that the main villain(s) aren't other guys in iron suits (which was my main problem with Iron Man 2).
Only confusion is that the ending makes it look like he gave up being Iron Man, what with getting his power supply removed and all his suits being destroyed. We know it's just a "reboot", but it still seemed very... final. RDJ has gone on record that this will be the last Iron Man movie, but of course he'll be back for Avengers 2.
Everyone else seems to be able to wear the suits without a power source (Iron Patriot and Pepper). Plus the whole movie happened because the suit he was wearing ran out of juice and needed to charge. So I think his implanted power source has been written out as a necessity. That being said, like that they did that scene as a sort of end-cap on the RDJ era.
Not to mention, the last words of the movie (not including the bit after the credits) were "I AM Iron Man"
Iron Man 4, not. Avengers 2 (and who knows, maybe Avengers 3), YES!
Yes, which made it confusing.
After all, he didn't have a suit anymore.
