The fact that blows me away is not his yardage, its his completion rate (81.4%) and the fact he has thrown absolutely no interceptions (24 TDS, 0 INTs). I can't even remember such a thing with as many attempts (204) that he has.

As much as I keep harping on drafting for need (OL), at present I can't see passing up on this 6'3" QB if he was available to us next spring. The fact that he can run and scramble really good makes him that much more of a WOW factor. I want to watch all of his games. He is that exciting to watch to me.

I would almost bet that after he wins the Heisman that the draw would be to much for the Cards to pass up. Should be a big boost in season ticket sales.

He's the real deal & I was pimping the dude before the season started.

Btw, unless we are willing to cough up three #1s plus more high picks we have no shot at the kid because he will go in the top 2 picks. The reality is, the Cards will most likely never have a franchise QB because we never suck bad enough & aren't willing to roll the dive on greatness :bang:

I'm sorry but he hasn't played against a real defense yet. I just can't get over how badly a very average Syracuse D made him look pathetic the past two years they played & one of those games was in Morgantown. Being a Syracuse fan, I've seen a ton of Big East football over the years & those 2 games just were eye openers. I'm pretty sure he's had some pretty average games against the likes of Pitt, UConn & Rutgers, none of which are powerhouses. I'd like to see him perform against some D's of the SEC before I crown him as a can't miss NFL star.

Yeah he's not getting any better what so ever;):mulli:

Youngsters have bad games as they grow, mature & develop into more polished players...keep knocking him as he walks away with a Heisman Trophy & becomes a top 2 NFL draft pick.

Forget the conference...watch the player!!! He's got game!!!

The only problem I have with this logic is that a team like Alabama or LSU for instance has better talent across the board which would make it hard for any QB with a less talented team to look very good.

Hes probably the most naturally gifted QB ive ever seen.

Just started watching him this year (although ive known about him for awhile). Its not even close. Hes amazing.

But I dont think he has the mental cpacity for the NFL. He can do what he does right now in College because hes going up against college defenders. Theres not a ton of thought process there. In the NFL, I think he'll struggle big time.

I hope im wrong, a talent like him in the NFL would be awesome to watch.

Is Geno Smith really mobile? I've always thought of him as a pocket passer who picks up some run yardage because they spread the field out. (And they've played in the ACC). I kinda sorta doubt Smith will be running much in the NFL. He's maybe a 4.7/4.8 40 kinda guy, I think.

Its not clear because he never needs to run. Hes got a very good Oline, that shouldnt be ignored. But other than that, hes very, very good at throwing guys open. Hes usually gets rid of the ball (84% of the time for a completion or TD) before the pressure even gets close.

Lazer accuracy, monster arm - the best deep ball man ive ever seen, college or NFL.

but, dunno if he has the smarts. Theres been thousands of men just as talented at various positions to walk in and immediatley out of the NFL for that very reason.

I'm dying to hear your explanation for this Dr Bodha ;)
The 2nd part of your argument...doesn't every college player face that dilima? Just trying to understand your logic.

He's a system QB & the current WVU system fits him like a glove. Not sure if his talents translate to NFL. Syracuse forced him into so many mental miscues that I've had red alert flags whenever his name comes up. Phenomenal athlete, but I'm not sure about "can't miss" QB in the NFL.

I would not touch a QB from Holgerson's tree. System players through and through ie Graham Harrell, Case Keenum, etc. Weeden was an aberration and his abilities had more to do with the system at OK State after Holgerson left.

The only way anyone can get a reading on someones intelligence without personally knowing them, listening to them speak.

Its shallow, but thats what we as human beings do.

I cant see his test scores. Ive never seen him in the film room. Ive never spoken to him in person. So I may be dead wrong. But on the flip side, tell me why you think hes a genius.

Goes both ways.

As for the 2nd part, his bread and butter is the deep ball. Thats taken away in the NFL moreso than any other throw. He has such overwhelming success right now because he is so skilled with it, but he is also going against College D's, who struggle defending it. The differene between Geno and every other College QB who faces the same D's is Geno utilizes his deep ball more than any of them (as he should). Thats a crutch that wont be there in the NFL.

Of all the senior QB's, or guys that might end up in the Draft, Smith looks the best to me. My only question is his arm strength. I started off being impressed with Barkley, but he seems to have regressed and no one else has stepped up at least imo. Despite their awful season the Arkansas QB, Wilson ??, seems to have the physical tools, but he's been injured a lot. Landry Jones has nice size, but really hasn't stood out.

Dunno what I think about Wilson. Hes not a franchise QB, but hes not bad either. Hes kind of like Matt Cassell on a good day.

Ffffffffffff-Heck No. Landry has played some Derek Anderson football this year. Ive never been impressed by him, but he put it in concrete this year. Hes a terrible, 100% guaranteed NFL Bust.

The guy I've been watching is EJ Manuel for Florida State. I know the offense he's running isn't really close to an NFL offense, but what he's doing has been outstanding. He has a lot of weird mechanical issues that scare NFL guys, but don't really bother me. He's completing 70 percent of his passes this year. It's hard to tell how much of his performance against NC State was him vs. his teammates. The whole team seem to go to sleep at halftime.

Also love Georgia's Aaron Murray. Again, a guy whose measurables will scare teams away, but he seems like the kind of guy who goes on to NFL success because he actually has talent, if not genetic perfection.

Are there any winning QB's in the NFL with bad throwing mechanics? Have there ever been? Good question.

Lots. According to NFL gurus I've spoken to in the past, Carson Palmer has nearly flawless mechanics. Phillip Rivers has awful mechanics. So does Rothliesberger. Eli Manning falls backwards on a lot of his throws. So does Stafford, who is a classic backfoot thrower. Alex Smith doesn't bend his knees enough when he throws. So does Ryan Fitzpatrick. Cam Newton doesn't rotate his hips enough. Brady is flawless until he gets bored.

So not that many. Not when you look at the mechanics of winning QB's. Mannings, Brady, Elway, Montana, Marino, etc.

This reminds me of Steve Young freaking out about how terrible he thought Jay Cutler's pregame warmups were.

"What is he doing out there!?"

Cutler's footwork is infamous. It's really bad.

The guy would be amazing if he, like Steve Young said, ever had a coach who could coach him.

I think he's had lots of training. Martz is no slouch when it comes to QBs. I believe he's the kind of guy who needs someone to hold him to it, because he won't seem to do it on his own.

Cutler mechanics have been constant. Martz never got him to change them.

But the bolded part is what I was talking about.

Diehard WVU fan here and I have to say you couldnt be more wrong on the mental capacity part. In this offense he has the ability to check out-and frequently does-all positions. He can check to a run or pass, he can change the OLine protection package, he can change the WR's routes.

If you watched against Texas, Buie (rb) had 35 carries in an air raid offense. That was due to Geno checking off plays at the line based on how the defense set up....dude is legit

look at his previous stats unmder Coach Stew. They ddnt run this air raid offense ane he completed 70% of his passes for 35 tds and 7 ints something like that

as for the cuse, he did struggle, but he was sacked multiple ti,mes and the oline was beaten line a red head step child. Id say you probably cant put that blame soley on him

im sorry but thats dead wrong. Sure he throws a nice deep ball but in holgersons offense 90% of the throws are 15 yards and under. He's super accurate
