The Alabama Crimson Tide are in Cleveland to open the NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup against Robert Morris at Rocket Arena today.
A big question has been whether star forward Grant Nelson will play after suffering a knee injury late in the first half of Alabama's 104-82 loss to the Florida Gators last Saturday in the SEC Tournament semifinals in Nashville.
Alabama coach Nate Oats said Monday that Nelson and the team had "dodged one" after the fifth-year senior from Devils Lake, N.D., visited a knee specialist to determine the severity of the injury. Oats added on "Hey Coach" that the injury wasn't "anything too serious" and that Nelson would be questionable for Friday's game.
Yea Alabama, the school's official NIL collective, reported Friday that Nelson would be available for the first-round matchup in Cleveland. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein added that, per Oats, Nelson will not start against Robert Morris.
Nelson is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game this season behind Mark Sears' 18.7 PPG. Nelson is Alabama's top rebounder with 7.6 per game.
Alabama is the No. 2 seed in the East Region bracket of the NCAA Tournament and will play Robert Morris at 11:40 a.m. (CT). The game will be televised on truTV.
