Yeah, I think increasing your arm & leg strength could definately effect your shot negatively. Especially if you have a very unorthodox shot like Shawn does.

I think they try to do it too fast. They should get into a decent program and let their bodies develop rather than try to bulk up quickly.

But the general mentality in NBA scouts etc is "needs to get stronger." Geez, it says that in nearly every scouting report for every player on NBAdraft.net.

When you add upper body strength, you still add weight and you still have to lift it up off of the floor when you jump. So it is inevitable that you sacrifice some quickness even if if you don't sacrifice vertical inches on your jump shot.

Its a myth that adding strength hurts your jumpshot. It only hurts if you focus only on adding strength and ignore practicing your jumpshot. I think when you add upper body strength you should also add lower body strength as well (but im not sure if thats actuallly a rule or not)....

Marion bulked up because he was getting pushed around a lot. His game is as much about defense and rebounding as it is shooting, so bulking up was not a bad idea. But it does tend to change the feel of shooting and takes a while to adjust.

Of course the fact that several other Suns have not bulked up and can't shoot should be considered. Googs does not look any bigger and his shooting has been pathetic.

Adding 5-10lbs isnt going to change anything in a bad way. As long as you stretch alot to stay flexable you will be fine.

Now if you are talking about adding 30lbs and looking like Ben Wallace yea I can see that hurtin the shot alot.
