Just a thought on Sundays game. Josh seems to have done a complete rversal from the pre season in one major aspect of his game. He is NOT running at all. There were at leats four times on Sunday were he had a clear lane with maybe one defender to beat and he held the ball and held the ball and held the ball, waiting for a receiver to get open and got sacked, hit after a minimal gain or threw a pick. Has DG told him to not run or what? This is one of his talents and I am wondering why it hasn't been used. Especially inside the 10 yd line. Does anyone have an answer for this??

I disagree...he was looking to run almost constantly, but had nowhere to go. It seemed to me that every time he got more than a moment or two, when he could have looked to pass, he was already looking to run.

I agree with you. I thought in pre-season he looked down 2 receivers and started sprinting for the 1st down. He gained lots of yards, but he couldn't take that beating all season.

He doesn't scramble as quickly, it seems, but I also think he has a hard time finding a receiver to throw it to -- maybe they're all covered?

And why don't the Cards have that naked bootleg play that I saw from Plummer (of all people), and every other quarterback in the last 2 weeks?

I agree. There were 2 or 3 plays he could have has 20+ yard runs and just ran towards the sidelines looking downfield.

One of the penalties of losing is that fans tend to micromanage your every move.

McCown may have gotten rattled (and justifiably so as enemy pass rushers blew in toward him). But I didn't detect any trend which showed him running too much or too little.

Each segment of each play is a game within a game within a game - and my guess is that Josh acts instinctively in each case - based on its unique circumstance.

Just wondering, but how do you think Josh will handle the first time he finds himself with enough time to go through his progressions properly? Will he faint? Will he pick the defense apart? Or will his mind fragment on him?

Well put. I didn't see a thing wrong with McCown that wasn't caused by fierce, immediate, and constant pressure.

Not trying to be a smart azz but how about the 4 balls thrown right into the defensive lineman and the infamous thrown ball into the face (or helmet) of another lineman. Given, some of those may have been because of pressure I guess, but a few he was actually set and ready to throw. Maybe he got to the point where he figured he would never have enough time so he just locked on 1 receiver and fired? The announcers even said he's not ready (after 3+ years). However, this may all be a moot point once he has time to throw and then all the Josh followers will be praising him (saying told you so) or aligning themselves with the next QB. Once there are no more excuses or reasons for him to fail, we'll see. On a side note, if he succeeds (hopes aren't high), that would be the best thing that could happen to the Cards.
