Many on the Board including me favored signing McNabb this past off season and some hope that he becomes a free agent and we sign him next year.
He really is struggling with the Redskins this year. Some question his smarts and some his lack of conditioning. Many here still think he will be better than what we have but I just wonder if his best days are behind him. Shanahan is no dummy when it comes to QBs. He was a quality OC before he became an effective HC. He seems to have given up on McNabb.
At best case, he would be a short term solution for the Cards and the worst case a waste of money on an aging QB that no longer has it.

We all know the Cards need to address the qb situation but McNabb could be a big mistake.

Other thoughts?

I wanted to ask this question: Will Mcnabb accept to come here?
we are talking as if it's a lock.
we passed on him last year. how is he gonna feel about it? like you weren't worth the price asked

I was actually very anti-McNabb coming here, especially when I thought Leinart would be our starting QB. Ironically, I am now for him coming here. Sometimes things just don't work out with certain teams or coaches (cough, Shannahan, cough). I think McNabb still has gas in the tank and, I can't believe I am saying this, wouldn't mind at all seeing him in Cardinal red next year.

i never posted it but i was/am a McNabb backer and would like to have had him here. i think everyone knew that DA was not the answer and Max, well Max is an undrafted rookie that needs several years to develope. Skelton is not even on the radar at this point in time. Matt was not the answer either, although his teammates and Whiz did not believe in him he was also done. that brings us back to McNabb. he is starting to show his age but i feel he still has alot to offer this team, something like Warner did. now i wouldn't say that lightining stricking twice here is going to happen but i think our chances would have greatly improved than what we have now. when you figure in Fitz, Breaston, Doucet and Beanie i think thats a difference maker. well with that said i'm pretty sure that McNabb will never be a cardinal, aahhhh unless lightining stricks the cards again. :)

Me, too.

Here's the deal, though: If we get McNabb for the next season or two, all he's going to be is a bridge to a young potential QBoF. If that guy is on the roster now, it's Skelton. If he's not, then it's a high draft pick next year. McNabb isn't the answer, he's the "ummmmm" you say to buy you a second before you give the answer to a tough question.

So, point being, is McNabb the QB he was in Philly? No. But he's a country mile better than anything we have while we're developing someone to be "the guy."

GD, our QBs are garbage.

I think Whisenhunt would have to change his offense to suit McNabbs strengths, he hasn't changed his offense for the QBs we have now to cover for their weaknesses so I am not so sure he would do that.

McNabb is average at best in the short to intermediate passing game, he just isn't accurate enough. He isn't as mobile as he once was--not even close and from what I have watched the past few weeks (living in Wash DC right now and all) I think his pocket presence isn't what it once was.

All that being said he is light years better than what we currently have.

with our roster we win the superbowl with vick....
I think that's overstating it. With the NFC in the shape it's in, I think we'd have a great chance to get to the Super Bowl, but there are some REALLY good teams in the AFC. I don't think even with Vick the Cardinals are as good as Indy, Pittsburgh, Baltimore or even NE.

I think I agree with you Pariah. I mean getting a vet to come in here would be to take a run at getting to the Super Bowl. However, we having other holes on this team besides QB and I don't think this team is a good as any of those teams either as is.

Mcnabb is not finished. In fact if he was in Arizona right now the Cards would be well on their way to the NFC west title and who knows after that.
Of all people, I think Cards fans should know that all you have to do is get to the playoffs and then even "the worst playoff team ever" has a shot.

I think McNabb has the tools.

When Leinart was here, and everything looked like he was the guy for now, I didn't think it would have made sense to bring in another aging QB with 2 or 3 year left before he might retire.

Now?

If you get 2 years or even 1 and allow a little time to get a plan for a QOF. Might not be such a bad idea.

I do not, however, think he is going to be as good as Warner. I would say he would be more like Jake Plummer with his effectiveness.

These days if I were to go back and take a QB that was available in the offseason ?

Would it not have been nice to pick up Ryan Fitzpatrick ? Could have gotten a 27 year old QB that can play. I don't think Fitzpatrick will be available in the offseason, unless the Bills are just that clueless.

Agree with everything you said. I equate McNabb with some of the guys my girlfriends and I meet ... he ain't Mr. Right, but he's Mr. Right Now.

I don't think anyone can forget that he has a home here in AZ since that was a major case by many on this board for bringing him in here last year. (That's not a knock on you, az jam ... just a statement is all.)

Agreed. He is a like a more accurate Derek Anderson. Not the best scenario but the talent is here that a little better would be enough, IMO.

I think I recall McNabb getting benched in Philly, then coming back and lighting it up in his next start. Dude is far from done, but is past his prime. We have everything else already in place, QB is it. We have proven we can do a lot worse then McNabb. Orton and Grossman, I seen enough of them in Chicago, we don't want them.

Draft day will come, we will sit and hope to move up, at least we will be sitting (maybe Newton). Its between Palmer and McNabb in my hopefully hopeful hopefulness.

YOu don't want Kyle Orton? You're insane.

I think Orton is one of the more underrated QBs in the NFL. He isn't flashy but the guy is solid...we'd be a playoff team with him and run away with the division. Whether or not we'd go far in the post season that is another matter but he is exactly the type of QB we could use.

No question in my mind McNabb is better than anything we have. The question is who will be available in FA next year and how much money will our owners be willing to spend on a QB. There is a shortage of QBs in the NFL at the moment so anyone who is modestly good will be looking for some good money. Can we get into a position to draft one of the top three QBs in the draft. It may be that any of the top three could be a starter. The Rams young QB looks like he will be an all pro someday and is a proven starter right now. I would do what ever it takes to get into the top three to draft a QB. We will have a lousy record at the end of the year for obvious reasons. It probably does not make much sense to try and find a QB now. The season is half way over and any QB we might obtain would have question marks and would take a week or two to even half way learn our system. We will have to live with what we have. I just hope management (Graves) learned something here and that is you need to QBs who are ready to play ball successfully. I wonder if he really gets it. I think the Auburn QB and Ryan Mallet of Arkansas is NFL ready now. I do not follow the western QBs so I do not know the highly rated guys out there.
