I have looked back on all of the transaction reported on hoopshype and realgm and neither have the Padgett signing recorded.

Raja Bell was announced at a press conference with all the pomp and circumstance, Padgett nothing. Maybe when the Suns got wind of Brian Grant's imminent release they backed out.

Anybody have knowledge.

From August 15th: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050815/NEWS02/508150362
Scott Padgett, former St. Xavier High School and University of Kentucky basketball standout, played with Zoeller's group yesterday and said he was glad to make his fifth appearance for the event.

"It's a great event, and I try to come out and help him any time I can," he said.

Padgett also said he was looking forward to his next NBA season as he prepares to sign a two-year contract with the Phoenix Suns after a physical exam. The highflying Suns ran up the league's best record last year before getting knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual champions, the San Antonio Spurs. Padgett said he is looking forward to joining the Suns' high-octane offense.

"It's exciting, because it kind of reminds me of back when I was at Kentucky and we were just running up and down and shooting a lot of threes," he said. "It's kind of exciting to be able to get back to doing that. I haven't really been on a team where the goal is to shoot three-pointers since I've been in the league, so it's kind of like going back in time a little."

I'm guessing all these other moves will fall into place once the JJ trade is either finalized or rescinded.

They'll probably happen either way so I'm not sure what the wait is all about.

Not that it matters, but Padgett and James Jones (mentioned more and more as a possible acquisition) are nearly identical statistically except that Jones is 25 pounds lighter.

Dijon Thompson and Raja Bell are the only two that have OFFICIALLY signed there contracts with the Suns.

They have verbal agreements with Brian Grant ($1.67 mil), Scott Padgett (Rumored to be around $850K), Pat Burke ($Rumored to be around $700k), and Lucas Tischer (Rumored to be around $700K)

It's possible that the "5th" contract waiting to be signed is either Rowan Barrett or Stephen Graham. I'd probably bank on it being Graham.

Could be both. If the article doesn't include Grant into the 5 deals to be signed yet.

I feel so out of the loop. Who's Stephen Graham?

As of now, who do we know is going to be on our team?

Brother of Joey Graham. Stephen Graham played on our Summer League team in the Vegas Summer League. Played very well for an undrafted free agent. He can play the 2 and 3 spot. Good young prospect for the Suns if they sign him. If I was the Suns, I would sign him and if there's no room on the NBA roster then drop him off on our NBDL team. That's probably where Lucas Tischer will end up this year as well.

I heard Gambo and Ash talking about James Jones. Who is he?

Now I could understand if it was Damon Jones or Lonny Jones - guys we've talked about. But James?

James Jones is an unathletic combo forward with a high 3pt%: essentially, a younger Scott Padgett. He's played two years in the NBA. Jones is a former 2nd-round pick for Indiana, who got significant PT thanks to the suspensions there, and played well as long as he was getting regular minutes.

Jones is a RFA, but since Indy is so far over the luxury tax limit, they can't re-sign him without dumping salary first (besides, they just drafted Danny Granger). The Suns might be able to get James Jones for the Voskuhl TE and a second-round pick--Jones is getting LLE offers, so the money should be sufficient, and it keeps Jones away from Miami and Detroit.

I don't see the point in having James Jones and Padgett on the same team, but hey, what do I know?

I'm wondering how you know he is unathletic. I thought he was pretty athletic, actually.

Jones is a three point specialist. He took a total of 318 shots and 166 were for three. He hit almost 40%, but doesn't seem to have much else to his game.

I guess we saw different stretches of his play, then. He's not white, if that's what you mean. :p

Jones didn't strike me as athletic enough to play SG, and he's not really big enough to play PF. I would have called him a pure SF, but I didn't want to write off his chances with the Suns in the first sentence. ;)

hoopshype
Excellent leaping ability... Good rebounding and shot blocking skills... Runs the floor well... Good shooter.

They list him at 6'8" 225.

I don't see any evidence in the stats that he is consistently a good rebounder. He had some nice games such as Jan 22 when he grabbed 10 in 33 minutes and Apr 30 when he grabbed 9, but mostly he was not much on the boards as his 2.3 rpg in 17.7 minutes demonstrated.

He's extremely athletic. Indy's not over the luxury tax at this moment after waiving Reggie Miller's deal, that's why they did it, to retain JJ and DD.

Didn't you post just a little while ago that you'd never heard of him?

After waiving Miller, the Pacers still have $69m committed (according to hoopshype), putting them $8m over the lux tax limit IIRC.

I wasn't impressed with Jones' quickness or fluidity.

I looked it up. Honestly, I'm sure I must have looked at his profile at some point but had no memory of him at all. I was surprised to see he had played as much as he did because I can't remember his name coming up. And here I was sure that we discussed very player in the NBA in exchange for Marion.
