I'm thinking Mettenberger is the guy the Cards get later in round 1 or trade up into round 2.

Carr was my original hope but he's played himself up into maybe a top 10 pick.

I agree that I like the 2nd or 3rd round best as of right now. Once the board shakes out that may change but I just feel there will be too much talent available at OT to take the 5th best QB in a deep draft. As of right now, I think we can pretty much tab OT or QB in round 1 with OT favored because of the high probability of several QBs going in the top 12.

I am warming up fast on Jimmy Garoppolo from E. Illinois. He would be a good QBOF and could get him in the 3-4 round.
He is 6-2 222 and runs a 4.78

As was Quincy Carter and Marques Tuiasosopo (one of Russ Smith's favorites, IIRC) in the 2001 draft.

The thing with only highlighting the successful 2nd and 3rd round QBs is that it completely elides the Jimmy Clauasens, Pat Whites, Brian Brohms, Chad Hennes, John Becks, and Drew Stantons that dwarf the number of success stories.

I think when Dalton and Kaepernick made the playoffs they were the latest 2nd round QBs to do so since Brees.

lol yes let's declare a QB who has yet to play a single snap in the regular season our QBOTF. BA likes him as a backup. If he loved him so much he'd be starting over Carson.

I will say this about Ryan Lindley, I thought he played much better last summer than he did in his first REGULAR season starts. I know not too many fans think very highly of him (I'm up in the air), but maybe with experience he'll get better.

I won't do the research again to give you all exact numbers but the fact is that to get to or win the SB a 1st rd QB is required. In fact the number of #1 overall QB picks to win SB's is statistically significant.

Sure you have the exceptions that prove the point, Brady, Montana and Warner but by in large getting to the SB without a QB drafted in the 1st rd is like hitting the lottery.

I was just pointing it out that Brees was also a 2nd rounder.

I think you know how much I value 2nd round picks, which is a lot less than most.

edit: value may not be the right word, but there's a high probability of failure as your QB list supports.
