Well, I've never actually heard of a "hookie" story. "Hokie", yes. "Hookie", no. :D

It was the 80s--there were very little "non-hokie" stories in those 10 years. That was always a part of their charm.

rotfl - oh man, I can't believe I did that. :)

It must be my over-priced, private, prententious high school education coming out. I knew it would catch up to me eventually.

Funny because this is the first one that I thought of too.

Actually another one that fits this bill is....**** I know I'm going to catch alot of grief for this from BIM et al, but... ***** "Star Wars".

You can put Jaws in that category as well. When they came out, the special effects blew you away. Now, they seem hokie.

But Star Wars is still a great movie.

And I still laugh at "Better Off Dead". "One Crazy Summer" didn't age too well.

You're right. Man it was AWESOME. The best way to spend 2 1/2 hour - EVER! I'm so glad I went. Kim loved me for it. Every day she thanks me for taking her to CATS.

BTW - didn't Beth enjoy it?

That's awesome--I've seen them 3 times--once in Vegas, once in Huntington Beach and once in Hollywood. The Peacemakers rock man--definitely a band to catch in concert. Lots of tequila though... :)

Great quote--Here's To Life is probably their best live song.

That Rocky Point show is a yearly thing--it's like a huge music festival or something.

One movie I loved as a kid so much that we went to the movies and sat through it twice was Grease . Olivia Newton-John was SMOKIN'!!! Now when I watch that movie it just seems so...

Oh, who am I kidding? I still love Grease .

"Mekong"

Barkeep
another Mekong please
Yes of course you can keep the change
A new glass here for this new friend of mine
Forgive me, I've forgot your name

Flip a coin
What shall we talk about
Heads I tell the truth
Tails I lie

I came all the way
From Taipai today
Now Bangkok's pouring rain
and I'm going blind again
And I ain't seen my girl
in fifteen thousand miles

Is it true It's always happy hour here
If it is I'd like to stay a while
And as cliche as it sounds
I'd like to raise another round
And if you bottles empty
Help yourself to mine
Thank you for your time
And here's to life

Barkeep
We need to go around again
One for me and what's his name
My new best friend
Deal me in
And I'll pick my cards up off the floor
I'll see my lucky coin
And raise a pack of lies

Smile to the girl at the door
Another 4 dollar *****
But don't look her in the eyes
She'll break your heart

We came all the way
From Taipai today
Now Bangkok's pissin' rain
and we're going blind again
And I ain't seen my girl
in fifteen thousand miles

Is it true
It's always happy hour here
If it is I'd like to stay a while
And as cliche as it sounds
I'd like to raise another round

Ugh -- I HATE Grease... Just hate it.

(No wonder I'm dateless and desperate) :D

Whoa! Add Grease as my number 3 in the guilty pleasures thread. I saw that movie many times in the theater, know it almost word for word, still watch it when it comes on TV, and at one point owned the soundstrack on LP cassette, CD and even 8 Track.

LOVE that movie. That movie reminds me more of my childhood than ever Star Wars does. And Im not even gay!

I just bought a copy of Condorman not to long ago. I used to love that movie as a kid. I watched with some friends and it's pretty bad. I ordered The Last Starfighter but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. BTW Mekong is my favorite song off of that record too.
