I'm not saying letting Graves and Whis go was a mistake, but the Cards seem to be expecting to have the candidates of their choice beating down the door. They are not very aggressive in their pursuit. I think they are going to be the wallflower left standing at the dance. Face it, this team is not very attractive.

Only one of the 7, yes 7, teams with a HC vacancy have a deal with a new HC. Kelly to Cleveland is far from a sure thing, at this point. Also, I haven't seen any GM's hired yet, and their are 5 of those openings.

Be patient, the rest of the league is.

I think they are doing what they want to do. They are also being quiet. Not aggressive? They interviewed McCoy today. They have their number one target in Horton at hand and interviewed.

Mike already said they won't move fast on this. They don't expect anyone beating down their door, they expect to be doing their due diligence.

This team isn't attractive? Top flight defense, good receiving corp, top 7 pick in an OT/OG heavy draft for a team needing a line. RBs can be drafted or brought in off the street (see Green Bay) and a QB situation that needs fixed.

It's not unattractive. We've got one side of the ball in place, the other side about 25 percent of the way there.

Let it all play out, and remember I'd they do want a coach that's still in the playoffs they can't name him until they are eliminated, so if McCoy is their guy they can't sign him until Feb 4 at the earliest possibly.

Compared to the rest of our division, we are in a descent.

Meh. The Rams could fall fast. Seahawks could as well. The Niners are going to be tough with their D, but their O could falter too.

We aren't a patsy division though, that's for sure. But don't buy the ESPN hype that we aren't a talented team. We were a very poorly offensively coached team with a bad oline and no QB. Oline can be fixed rather quickly. QB will take some time, but OL fixes RB issues, and helps the QB.

In this new NFL, any team can rise and fall rapidly.

Once teams start getting eliminated from the playoffs, you'll see more activity and more candidates surface.

Now that Cincy is out, Jay Gruden might attract some attention.

The official site has a preview of Flight Plan show in which Bidwill outlays what he's after.

Here's the excerpt from Urban's blog
http://blog.azcardinals.com/2013/01/04/bidwill-talks-coachgm-search/ The preview video currently available is worth a listen.

In terms of a general manager, “I want a strong football person,” Bidwill said. “Not necessarily the best cap guy or the best football operations guy. I want a strong football person. At the end of the day I want to make sure we have the best personnel department, the best scouting department, that we can have.”
Bidwill said he wants to add new positions to the personnel department under the general manager.
As for a coach, “it’s important I don’t get stuck in offense versus defense,” he said. Who the candidate is planning on bringing in for his staff is important to Bidwill in the process, as is — not surprisingly — the plan to develop quarterbacks.

I expect the full show has more detail, but his intention seems pretty clear.

I didn't get much new either from the video clip or taped-transcript - other than he wants to strengthen the personnel-function, rebuild the offense and wants to make sure his HC oversees all aspects of football play and not just offense or defense-only.

Not much said about other possible candidates under consideration or the qualifications/resume of the ideal GM candidate. Most of it was the usual "company song" stuff about wanting "a strong FB person, someone who can lead us going forward yada yada. (What - he wants a weak leader & a non-football person)?

Can't blame Michael for playing it fairly close to the vest, but I think we'll just have to wait for what happens before we know what's happend.

Nope.

Taking their time. No problem with that.

........ I guess the best way to look at it is who is your personal favorite coaches, cause right now, all I have seen the Cardinals do is "dodge some bullets."

No to Andy Reid cause the game has passed him by, IMO.

No to Todd Haley cause he is not Head Coach material, IMO.

No to Lovie Smith cause I do NOT want the Cardinals to swtich to the Tampa-2.

No to Norv Turner because he is looking to work with Russ Grimm.

From a personal preference standpoint, I by and large agree - except that the only one definitely no longer in play is Reid. We still have to sweat out the other 3.

Michael Bidill is a smart seasoned dude. He is no Jerry Jones. He also has one of five openings in one of the most successful leagues in the world. He will do his duedilly and get a capable HC.

Not sure, but I believe coaches from teams in the playoffs are untouchables until they are eliminated from the playoffs.

Are there any "yes" guys though? We don't even have a GM, meaning we don't really have a direction.

I think I'm getting the hang of this interview stuff.

I think many of these interviews may be nothing more but a way to gather information and views about how you would go about fixing your problems.

Maybe Horton is our guy right now but by interviewing guys like McCoy, Gruden etc. you get an unbiased assessment of you team.

I also think there is a certain amount of leverage to the "chess game" that is being played by both management and the prospective hire.

Bidwill has already stated he hasn't given up on Kolb. But let's say we interview 4 or 5 guys and the concensus by a majority those interviewed say Kolb would not be their guy. Hell, maybe HORTON has told Bidwill Kolb just don't have "it". I think Bidwill would at least have to take that into consideration.

Unless of course Bidwill is looking for a guy that agrees with him. I highly doubt that would be the case.

The only way we screw the pooch here is NOT getting the guy you want which we will never know because whoever we end up hiring will be the "guy we really wanted all along".

That's a solid theory, but I would question how effective it can be. It's one thing to have an idea about something and another thing to actually know how to implement it and make it work.

Realistically, the old regime has been submitting year-end reviews and next-year plans since Wiz got here (maybe even before). Logically, Michael bought into those documents and would have been unhappy with just small aspects of any plan or the inability of coaches, players and FO to execute it.

I'd expect continuity to be retained on ST's and the defensive side of the ball, major changes on offense and significant targeted improvements on the way the FO operates.

But I also expect day-to-day business to go on as usual until a GM is in place and gets squared away.

I'm with the "take your time" crowd. K9 pointed it out right from the get go, this might take time because of the playoff coaches.

The GM situation concerns me...

But not MB's process thus far in trying to find the best HC.

This is a great year for hiring HCs---because there are so many qualified candidates, all of whom bring a special element to the table.

The biggest conundrum for MB---while he and everyone loves Ray Horton, if we don't get the offense into the hands of the right coaches, we will remain in the cellar of the NFC West for years to come.

MB was smart to retain Horton and the defensive coaches because if McCoy or Gruden, for example, becomes the choice, then one would think they would be grateful for having such a good defense and defensive staff already in place---which will allow the HC more time to work with the offense.

I know it is really frustrating waiting, but the Cards job is an attractive opening. I am not saying it is equal to a job running say the Steelers or Cowboys, but there are only 32 NFL jobs available. The fact you could start coaching a team that has a solid defense with young developing stars, could be enticing. To the right coach, the current state of the team is not important. Hopefully he will be focused on where we are going and his vision of the future, not what the franchise has achieved in the past.

Also we are accepting that the offense needs a complete rebuild, and that it will probably take several years. That to me would be a pretty big selling point to a coach if they have an offensive gameplan that requires much different personnel. At least the new coach will be allowed some time to implement a new offense.
