Is Webby Going Three Times?

Looking at the schedule, game 4 is monday. Then day off tuesday, game wednesday, and ANOTHER day off thursday. Game 7 not until saturday.

So webb can go 1, 4, 7 and actually get the normal 4 days of rest between 4 and 7. I would be shocked if this isn't what they do.

The other scenario would be webb in 1, and then FIVE days off until he goes in 5 and is done for the series. The first situation makes much more sense, as he only has to go on 3 days once (as opposed to schill in '01 series when in going 1,4,7 he had to go on three days twice).

I wouldn't be opposed to Webb going three games. My hope would be we could somehow manage to beat the Rockies in 6 games so Webb could start the World Series. We would need him more in that series than against the Rockies. Nothing against the Rockies who are playing amazing right now, but the AL teams have great lineups that have shown it all year long.

Webb is our worst starter against the Rockies ironically -- his era is over 5.00 against them. Livan and Davis have much better luck historically this year. I wonder how Micah would do against them?

Well if Webb does well in his first start then they'd better put him out there for three. He's our ace and I'd rather rely on him to win it for us than the inconsistent pitchers that make up the rest of the rotation.

Although three days of rest was once the way baseball was played, it doesn't seem to work nowadays.

I don't want to see Webby join the parade of star pitchers who get hit hard on three days rest.

If we go to Owings, he pitched consistently well at the end of the season. And he's our best hitter. And we have a solid bullpen.

I agree. When we pinch hit Cirillo the other night, I was actually hoping that we would be pinch hitting Owings. ahah
Did Mikah get a pinch hit during the season? Perhaps he should have had more opportunities.

It seems that when he's pinch hitting, he's pitched to as a hitter.

When he's pitching, he's pitched to as a pitcher . . . and gets extra base hits and the best hitting stats (albeit a small sample) on the team.

He did get like 3 or 4. I remember him drawing a walk and getting a single, he wasn't bad at all.

Owings will still pitch....does no one remember how the old DBacks used to do it? :-/

Would you guys really want Livo to pitch a Game 7?

Wherever Webb pitches, it should ALWAYS be at Chase Field. I say leave him at home for the road trip.

Webb's stats at Coors Field this year:

2 GS, 11 innings, 9 earned runs (7.36!), 14 hits, an opposing BA of .304.

Not that any other D-Backs starters with as many starts there have great numbers there, but at least you know Webb's your best shot at winning when he's pitching against anyone at Chase Field. By far, Coors Field is Webb's nightmare. His performances in all other parks are stellar, and he's almost an entirely different pitcher there.

Davis shouldn't throw there, either. Davis' stats at Coors Field this year:

1 GS, 5 innings, 8 hits, 6 ERs, opposing BA of .364 (!!!)

Now look at Livan Hernandez's Coors Field numbers

2 GS, 1-0, 14 IP, 3 ER (1.93!), 9 hits, 6 BB but ZERO HOME RUNS

Not only did Micah Owings not pitch at Coors Field, he has never faced the Rockies. That could be a wild card there, but I'd throw him out there knowing I might have to yank him after 2 or 3 innings. Just have the bullpen warmed up and ready to go. The downside would be Edgar Gonzalez, conceivably the long reliever in place of Owings, would be returning to his own slaughter: 3 innings, 4 BBs, 5 ERs. Just bad.

It's going to be Webb, Davis, and Hernandez, with hopefully the chance for Owings to surprise in Game 4 and Webb returning to start in Game 5 on Chase Field. That's how I'd do it, even if it means now Webb for potential Game 7. I think the D-Backs need to play the numbers and give themselves their best shot to win the games the odds say are in their favor.

FWIW, I don't think Colorado's lineup is a good matchup for Webb in general. Lots of good, patient hitters there and they seem to know his stuff as well as he does.

^I was more confused about the 'leave Webb at home' thing. Maybe it would be best for him to only pitch in AZ, but are you saying for him to not make the trip? Thats where Im confused.

Oh, yes, well ... just being overly dramatic to make a point.

That's how we won our Championship. Randy started Games 2 and 6, and pitched in relief in Game 7. All were home games.

We don't have a horse -- or is that a mule? -- to start Games 1-4-7 as Schilling did.

I had a Yankee fan tell me last night that Schilling was losing game 7, and that the Dbacks were lucky Rivera threw the ball away on the throw to second in the ninth. He started to say the Dbacks were on their way to losing.

At that point I pointed at him and said:

"But they didn't, they won, didn't they?"

He shut up.

Yeah, that's because Randy had a pitcher just as good as him. There's no one in our starting line-up that's close to Webb. And if Davis is just as bad at Coors, I'd rather have Webb pitch Game 4 over DD or Gonzalez pitching Game 5. We'll still get Livo and Owings to pitch in Colorado and Webb/Davis will still get two starts at home. And for the Game 7, Webb will have 4 days rest, right?

If Webb is going to go three games, he is going to need to pitch one in Colorado. The NLCS uses the 2-3-2 format. Personally though, I think we have to throw Webb out on 4 days rest the first time (Game 4) because then he can come back on normal rest for Game 7. We have a day off before game 5 as well as after.

GAME 1: ROCKIES @ D-BACKS 10/11, TBD
GAME 2: ROCKIES @ D-BACKS 10/12, TBD
GAME 3: D-BACKS @ ROCKIES 10/14, TBD
GAME 4: D-BACKS @ ROCKIES 10/15, TBD
GAME 5: D-BACKS @ ROCKIES 10/17, TBD
GAME 6: ROCKIES @ D-BACKS 10/19, TBD
GAME 7: ROCKIES @ D-BACKS 10/20, TBD

webb has pitched well in Colorado in years past. and if we are losing the series i think he throws in game 4 make sure that if there is a game 7 he's starting. but its not going to come to that since we will win it in 6.

I definitely want to see Micah swing it at Coors. He can give up an extra 2 runs if he drives in 3. ;)
