I was watching the Eagles game with Timmy's great efforts on the last drive. Now prior to that he'd been pretty ineffective for weeks in the regular season which is why Edge got the job back for the playoffs. That said, Hightower showed flashes as a rookie, just not a very instinctive runner, seems to pick the wrong hole and miss the right one too much.

Wells was VERY good in college, but was also hurt a bit and thus is kind of raw himself. But the talent is obvious the size and speed and he seems to see the field better than Hightower did.

I just wonder with our offense and how much we throw the ball, how tough will it be for a rookie to win the RB job considering all the blitz pickups and things a rookie will have to learn?

We can only hope that Wells learns quickly and shines in TC and gets the starting job! TH has proven he is NOT a starter, but a very good part time back.

Wells will have to prove he is better than Hightower to start. He has training camp and preseason to do that. If Hightower does better than Wells, Hightower deserves to start.

They had a Flex-Off with their calf muscles... Timmy won. He starts!

Either which way, I think they'll split carries with Timmy getting the short-yardage/goalline stuff and Jason Wright (who is very underrated IMO and will be an improvement over JJ) will take over on 3rd downs. Our RB group is looking to very solid over the next few years.

Just wanted to say that while he was very impressive against the Eagles, he really showed me the most against Carolina when he just pounded it down their throats to finish the game. I dont know if he's a legit RBOF or not, but I am sure happy Hightower is on our team.

Whiz was on NFL total access and the staff was on beanies jock and basically annointing him as the starter. They asked whiz how he thought he would fair. Whiz said very candidly that he is excited about Wells. BUT we have a RB named Tim Hightower whom we are VERY excited about and fell he is a clutch player whom they have a lot of confidence in and was a key reason for winning the NFC campionship. He clearly said that the winner in preseason and TC will start. I wouldn't count out Timmy. Even Urban gives him a good shot and says he's been working his tail off!

Wells will quickly become the starter, just don't know when that will happen. It could be by the first game or shortly thereafter. IMO he will win the rookie of the year awards.

Your man-love knows no bounds...enough of the bromance! :D

The Whiz won't start Wells if he isn't ready, especially if Hightower has a great camp.

I'm not saying Wells won't start, but he'll have to earn it.

By The third or 4th game, I feel Wells will be starting, if not starting the season ....

Dont know who they will call the starter. They might technically call Hightower the starter in game one, and Hightower might get more snaps even because of pass blocking and recieving, but Wells will without a doubt get the bulk of the rush attempts. On a perfect game plan the coaches will continue the rush to pass ratio we did in the playoffs, which was 28 runs to 32 passes.

Wells - 16 runs
Hightower - 10 runs
Wright - 2 runs

I think people are going to be amazed at how much better Timmy is going to be in year 2. I think he will dance alot less and keep from trying to break so many runs outside as last year once he was starting. Hightower was clutch on the NFC Championship winning drive!!! I think Beanie will have to beat him out and before the year is over he probably will.

If Well goes down on the first hit, Hightower will start. Wells went down too easily in several college games I watched so I say Hightower starts.

Hopefully considering he was the 1st round pick. It shouldn't make much of a difference as hopefullty the Cardinals will be able to run the ball quite a bit more this year.

That's the thing about Whiz. He doesn't care about draft position or salary.

We have seen this with Leinart and Warner.

The player that wins the job starts.

A little different situation, but in order for Arizona to have a healthy offense there must be a solid ground game and that should center around the round one pick. If the Wells struggles like Leinart did, expect plenty of Hightower. Obviously expectations are going to be high when the player is taken in the 1st round.

Round should have zero bearing on it. Production is all that matters!

A little bearing. You take the player 1st round because it's a player you feel could contribute in a big way tomorrow if need be. Right now Wells should be able to start. Even if Hightower does beat him out tho, Wells should get plenty of carries as well or it will look like the Cardinals made the wrong choice at 31.

No, this is completely wrong.

The best player starts. Competition is open.

Do I expect Wells to start? Yes. Is it a gimme? No. He has to earn it.

I never said it was, but he should be able to. If not, he should still see plenty of carries.

This is the training camp battle I'm most interested in. I expect that Tim will get the first couple of starts, splitting time, then Beanie gets the bulk of the carries as the season wears on.

Lott has taken a shine to Beanie, and is working him hard to get him into beast mode. I hope he can get him healthy consistently, as that's the ONLY knock against the guy. He's a monster otherwise.

We have a really good RB corp. Wow...who would have thought THAT?? Next thing you know, the Cards will be in the Super Bowl!!! Oh, wait. :D
