A little bearing. You take the player 1st round because it's a player you feel could contribute in a big way tomorrow if need be. Right now Wells should be able to start. Even if Hightower does beat him out tho, Wells should get plenty of carries as well or it will look like the Cardinals made the wrong choice at 31.

only a frightened coach cares what it "looks" like. a good coach plays the production, not the round. the only bearing is the salary. and i like a coach that is blind to the money.

I'm not knockin Hightower since he's a proven NFL back.

....but I've watched every college game that Wells played.....he's the real deal and you naysayers will be dissed bigtime.

Everyone seems to think Beanie is just going to put his uniform on when he signs and suddenly become superman. Wells has great talent and potential, but remember he missed all of OTA's so he is already way behind in his learning process and a camp holdout could put him farther behind. I really think Hightower is better than most think and will be highly motivated to prove to the coaching staff he is the man for the job. Timmy should be a better player just because he is going into year 2 as a seasoned veteran who actually contributed to a Super Bowl team. Barring a Hightower injury or Wells just tearing up the NFL as a rookie ala OJ Anderson, George Rogers, AP, Dickerson or Campbell I expect Timmy to start at least the 1st 8 games and be productive. Most rookie RB's take at least 1 season to find their groove.

No they dont. Only Past Cards RB's like Hearst and Jones do that, which may be why you think that way. But reality and facts say otherwise.

Peterson, Chris Johnson, Forte, Slaton, those are just recent ones and hundreds of other RB's prove they can run the ball as a starter from day one. Its only the little things that round out a RB's game later in their career like blocking and recieving. But running the ball 90% of RB's show if they have it year one or they never show it. Everyone though Marion Barbers game would find his starters groove later as well, and he hasnt done it yet, awesome #2, below average #1. Thats not to say Hightower cant be in that 10% though.

Wells is going to have to be clearly better to be the starter game 1. Whiz isn't going to forget the facts that TH played a pretty big role in the playoffs and was starting, although not too productive, for a good part of last season. That being said, i could see Wells being a monster from day 1 and taking the job. The good thing is this is probably the most promise the run game has had in years.

RB is one of the easiest transitions to make from college to pro. I am not worried about Beanie that way.

Wells is in a perfect place to prosper. He has a quick thinking qb and receivers that will draw the attention of defensive game planners. I personally think he will be much better than TH.

In order for Wells to start out of camp, will only be if he can neat Hightower by a large margin in pre season games. Hightower will remain the starter as long as he is productive. He is a proven TD machine!
