Very disappointing outing from Simmons. He looked lost at times.
I still remember play one or two against Mostert on the in-cutting route he ran in San Fran. It's literally rinse and repeat.

Nothing has changed with his coverage skills and nothing has changed athletically. He's as graceful as they come chasing the ball carrier as they zoom toward the endzone. I'll give him that.

I think the Cardinals should try to trade Simmons; if no offers then cut him.
I also believe that Beachum shold be traded, great individual; but too slow to play tackle in the NFL. Several teams are looking for OTs.
What's up with Rashard Lawrence?

Simmons asked JG to put him at safety, I'm sure after seeing his tape at linebacker JG had no problem trying that out. This is the route Simmons thinks can help his career, it's entirely on him this time.
He asked? lol

Yep. https://www.nfl.com/news/cardinals-...asons, though, Simmons, had done in the past."
After three seasons, though, Simmons is changing positions under new coach Jonathan Gannon, moving from linebacker to safety after requesting the switch.
"I told them I didn't want to play linebacker," Simmons said Monday, via the team's site. "I felt more comfortable getting back to things I had done in the past."
The past saw Simmons begin his collegiate career at Clemson as a safety.

It seemed as though he lost his focus when he stayed in with the 2nd team. There were blown assignments with the 2nd team, so I‘m not sure when he looked confused, that it was necessarily his fault. What was inexcusable was when he had the opportunity to put a hit on their QB jogging into the end zone & he chose not to make the hit. I guarantee that JG lights him up when everyone watches tape of that.

What is his right position? It can’t be anywhere in the back 7 because he can’t change direction/flip his hips damn near at all.

It can’t be in the front 4 because he doesn’t have any EDGE experience & lacks any fluidity to win there.

This isn’t a coaching problem. I don’t think it ever has. It’s an Isaiah Simmons body problem.
At this point, offense? Sheez.

The game seemed to change with the second team guys for both squads. They hung in there real tight at the start of the game with starters in. Then the game just exploded for KC when they brought in their second unit versus ours. Obviously they have more quality depth. IDK. You could just see the game completely change at that point.

To be honest, KC left their starters in longer than we did, especially on the defensive side. The Chiefs TD drive with Mahomes at the end of the 1st quarter was against primarily our 2nd team D. All in all, we did a nice job against Mahomes. It was our 2nd & 3rd team D against their 2’s & 3’s when we got abused. Which essentially exposes our lack of depth, which certainly doesn’t surprise anyone on this board. We need guys like Murray, Ertz, CB Williams, Ojulara, Thomas, and Sanders out there, so the current 1st teamers would move to the 2nd string, and our current 2nd teamers move to the 3rd team. Everyone else gets cut.

As far as our first unit against Mahomes I thought we started out well

We had pressure from the edges on the QB while keeping the edge on running backs. Secondary was ball hawking. When everyone's doing their job it enables players around the ball to make stand out plays and it was on like donkey kong there for a minute

But then, right around the third drive or so Mahomes and Andy figured us out. Exploited our pressure with misdirection and found space in our secondary

Really showed us who we were and we're not there yet

Not that Mahomes/Reid wouldn’t have eventually figured us out, but when you force two 3 & outs against KC, you better have at LEAST 7 points on the board. And when they finally did figure us out, at least half of our 1st team D was already on the bench.

There was a play where he just let Rice run right by him and make the catch when he was the only defender there. I was at the game so it was hard to tell from where I was sitting.

It was a dumb move to draft Simmons then and remains a dumb move now. Even if it had worked out to whatever degree, anyone loving the idea of spending 18 mil per year on an ILB? I mean, Budda is one of the best S in the NFL and people complain about paying him 17 mil.

Keim saw the evolutionary Deone Buchanan and had to have him.

I think he was trying to recreate Daryl Washington again. I thought Simmons would be evolutionary Karlos Dansby/Thomas Davis but it just didn't come together.

I'm sure some of the blame can be apportioned to a COVID predraft process. What a catastrophe.

Yeah, I think of Buchanon more because the sell seemed to be "you can use him all over the field" a la Buch, the $ backer. His potential positional flexibility was sold as an asset, when he in fact appears to be terrible at all positions.

Really needed Dave Gettleman to Dave Gettleman and draft him at 5.
