It is the right thing to do and it is not fair to Fitz to make him waste his remaining prime years waiting 3 to 4 seasons for the team to be competitive again. It may be best to sell high and be fair to Fitz at the same time.

I really hate to write this, but it is time.:bang:

Agree 100%. Fitz deserved better and face it, right now he is a luxury this team can't adford. I'm not buying the bs about his contract #s make him un-tradable. He's one of the best WRs in his prime. Someone will trade for him. A team like Washington, NYG, PIT OR NE would love to have him.

I don't think we're in full rebuild mode - we're trimming some of the fat. We are getting younger, and getting rid of a lot of guys, but this is exactly what you saw Haurbaugh do up in San Francisco just years ago.

We can't let go of our one really valid name and draw for quality free agents.

(I finally broke 1K after 11 years! Whoa!)

No way you trade Fitz. The Cards are not in full rebuild mode like a team such as the Jaguars. It should be a quick rebuild. Like the 49ers did a few years ago, as Solar7 mentioned.

If the Cards get two years into the BA era and no significant progress has been made, then and only then do you even think of trading Fitz.

A new GM, a new coaching staff, no clear cut QB, 15 players cut or going to hit FA, the defense transitioning and an offense in shambles. Make no mistake this team is rebuilding.

Oooo Ooooo! I have a BETTER IDEA!!!!!! Let's just get rid of Dockett, Campbell, PP21, D-Wash, and others tomorrow!!! Since, you know, we're in a rebuild mode and all, and it'd be better for the team long-term.

:sarcasm:

Be setious with yourself. Fitzgerald is part of the solution for the future, not the problem. The only people that have been released were has-beens, whose talents have diminished and never-weres, whose contributions simply were not commensurate with their pay. Fitz is the one piece of this team that makes it recognized nationally and provides an elite target for whomever is throwing passes this season.

These "Trade Fitzgerald" talks need to die a quick and sudden death.

Sure I'll be stoned for this, but I'm so sick of hearing people say how Fitz deserves better. This organization has given him the biggest contract for a WR in NFL history, he played in a Super Bowl, he had a Hall of Fame quarterback, he's played on two division winners, and he's played in 6 playoff games. This all with 6-8 years left in his career.

Larry's had some pretty low moments of his career, but his highs have been higher than 99% of people who have played in the NFL.

Tony Gonzales just won the first playoff game of his career and he is hands down the best TE of all time.

Also, even if we traded Fitz, I doubt we would get much in return. That's a lot of money to take on.

This is reactionary and over the top. Free agency hasn't even started yet.

Oh-- just wait. In 24 hours, free agency will have been about 4 and one half hours old, and I predict at least two "why hasn't the team done anything" threads.

Given their history on free agents, I am thinking no activity will be a step forward.

Nope, I agree. Sure Fitz is a great WR but he is being compensated handsomely. He chose to stay here and signed his contract. I love him as a player and a person, but to say he deserves better, I don't totally agree with.

Johnson has a competent QB to throw him the ball.

Well who's to say we can't get one. You don't trade your best player that does more than his contract on and off the field. Larry Fitzgerald is the reason people even recognize the Cardinals. Arizona minus Fitzgerald mine as well be the jaguars.

The issue isn't whether "he deserves better" but whether he makes our football team better.

In so many different ways, the answer is "yes!"

I also agree with you, Jeff. I guess my point is, I don't think he deserves better than the Cardinals, I wish he had a situation that was better, and I also love what he brings to the Cardinals.

And I want to be clear, I don't want anyone to think my feelings are Fitzgerald specific, all these NFL players make choices and decisions they have to live with. So I feel the same about all NFL players.

I really hate it when I see this: :bang:

We got rid of absolute dead wood in Bradley, Gay and Doucet. And we cut two guys that had one year left in Beanie (almost definitely) and Wilson (probably).

I'm very disappointed about Wilson because he is a class act and one of my all time favorites, but losing him a little earlier than I'd like doesn't equate to dumping Fitz.
