It’s been a whirlwind of a week for the LSU gymnastics team. After securing the No. 1 overall seed, they had a couple more surprises. The GOAT of gymnastics, Simone Biles, visited the LSU gymnastics facility to give her support to the Lady Tigers.

Biles is friends with freshman gymnast Zoe Miller. Both ladies are from Spring, TX and train at the World Champions Centre owned by Biles’ parents. After the gym visit, Simone planned to attend the LSU baseball game at Alex Box Stadium with the gymnasts.

Kailin Chio was also named the SEC Freshman of the Year this week. Hailing from Henderson, Nevada, Chio has emerged as the leading freshman performer in the SEC for the 2025 season, and she ranks among the best in the nation. This is just the beginning of her postseason journey with the Tigers.

In addition to being honored as Freshman of the Year, Chio received selections to both the All-SEC and All-Freshman Team. She is just the fourth gymnast in LSU's history to achieve the SEC Freshman of the Year title, following in the footsteps of Haleigh Bryant (2021), Kiya Johnson (2020), and April Burkholder (2003). Furthermore, she is the 20th gymnast to be named to the SEC All-Freshman Team since its inception in 2009.

Chio has made history with the most remarkable freshman debut in LSU's gymnastics program. Throughout her inaugural year, she has participated in the all-around at every competition for the Tigers, achieving impressive season highs of 10.0 on vault, 9.950 on both bars and beam, 9.975 on floor, and a total of 39.800 in the all-around. This score marks the highest all-around achievement by a freshman in LSU's history and currently in the nation. For five consecutive weeks, she has ranked among the top five gymnasts in the country, showcasing exceptional performance throughout her first year.
