Hansen writes today it could be Sean Miller and he suggests Miller would be smart to hire Josh Pastner as his main assistant. I actually like that idea. Josh could get some recruits in this year and down the road if Miller left to go to Pitt, Josh could replace him. Also, Josh is close to Nic Wise and there would be a chance he could persuade him to come back for his senior year.

The other rumor I have heard is Capel could be had. I would like to see that but I don't think that will happen.

The rumor is Livengood F'ed up this search real bad.

Not to many people are very happy around the program that he actually went hard after Floyd and not even near that hard after Capel and Few.

He has a huge opportunity to make up for his mental retardation during this search and if he fails to secure a good coach it is nobodys fault but his at this point.

The boosters arent happy.

Should it be "what are today's rumors" or "what is today's rumor"

:)

Just kidding.

Simple Jim offers Sean Miller a contract. Gambo and Ash report it's a done deal (a la Pitino, Capel, Few, Floyd). Miller uses contract to leverage himself into better deal at Xavier. Simple Jim goes back to the drawing board.

Wash, rinse, repeat until we get to Randy Bennett or Lon Kruger.

Baiscally. And because of this he should be fired imo. He's turning a top 10 job (regardless of what ASU trolls think) into a mockery at the moment.

One of the rumors on BRO is Pastner will be offered the coaching job now.

As I said last week Memphis fans insisted there was a clause in his deal that prevents him from going back to Arizona for a set time but apparently that's not true if he's even rumored to be up for the UA job.

Also apparently one UA board is reporting Floyd didn't turn UA down, someone at UA rejected Floyd over concerns about probations later.

That's a good article and Miller would be a good hire.

In the great tradition of hiring former ASU broadcasters, I heard Darron Sutton was interviewing in Tucson. PLEASE TAKE SUTTON!!! I can't stand another season of him in the booth.

Miller would be a very good hire, no spin needed from anyone who follows basketball.

They key would be bringing in someone with west coast recruiting ties for his staff if he is hired. Reggie Geary is the obvious name. I cant see Paster coming to UA as an assistant after the deal he has with Cal and UK.

Miller would be a terrific hire, he has an outstanding resume for his age and doesn't run the snoozefest system of his mentor Herb Sendek. Unfortunately he's not coming. It'll be Pastner, Bennett, or Kruger at this point unless somebody comes out of way left field like Herb did for ASU.

I'm rooting for Miller. Two respectable men manning head basketball jobs in Arizona. I might root for Arizona when they don't play us. I wanted to root for Lute, but the condescension was just too much for me.

I'd also be happy for you guys if you got Bennett, but I understand why that might upset some. Besides being from Tempe, he might have a tough time selling his system to the kind of guards UA has become accustomed to. Head to head with Sendek, he's not a sure win for the best in-state recruits. He'd require a dazzling outside hired-gun recruiting hire.

Looks like you're right...per Paola. (the hottest woman this side of the mississippi)

"By the way, cross Xavier's Sean Miller and UNLV's Lon Kruger off your lists. Not intererested."

What a disaster... It's amazing how many coaches at lower level schools are saying no, but the domino effect of one guy saying no is bigger than I thought.

She doesn't know what she's talking about. I'm sure she heard that from one source and didn't double check with another.

FWIW:

DETROIT -- Arizona has initiated conversations with Sean Miller in an attempt to see whether the rising star at Xavier will entertain an offer that could be worth more than $13 million spread over six years, a source close to the Arizona program told CBSSports.com on Friday.

Multiple sources said it's unclear whether Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood has spoken directly with Miller, but the sources added that Miller has had preliminary discussions with a third-party representative working on behalf of Arizona, and that he's willing to consider a move to the Pac-10 more so than he's considered different opportunities in the past. In other words, Miller was never seriously interested in Virginia or Georgia, and he's not interested in replacing John Calipari at Memphis. But Arizona is the type of elite job that has his attention, though there are no guarantees Miller would automatically leave Xavier given that he clearly has the best job in the Atlantic 10.

Wondering how that reported $2 million buyout would come into play, if he does indeed have that in his contract.

I would hope Livengood is aware of the buyout. With the way things have gone I'm sure the UA will fork over $2 mil to "win the press conference."

Miller probably will not come, but Kruger would cream his shorts for the UofA job. He was pleading for the ASU job when Herb took over and you guys were in much worse shape at that point. That being said, Jim Livengood probably wouldn't even survive that press conference let alone win it. If Miller says no (odds are he will), my guess is the boosters take over and give it to Pastner. I still can't believe he had Floyd on the list higher than Miller.

And if you recall, I predicted the importance of the first guy saying yes. Most college coaches have too big of egos to be sloppy seconds.
