I think this may be the deepest they have been at running back since I don't know when. What is a splash play? over 25 yards? Any of them are capable of that. They don't have the foot speed of Ellington (few players do) but I think they all have quick feet and are NFL quality backs.

I would rather select from this group than Wells/Hightower/Powell/LSH/Smith.

I would take Wells/LSH/Hightower as Ellington's backups in a heartbeat over Taylor/Dwyer/Bauman

Just because Andre is a stud doesn't make the depth all that good.

Welcome to the NFL. Who does Seattle have past Lynch? Who does KC have past Charles? SF has Gore and.....Antonio Smith?

Cards fans love to find trouble where there is no trouble. This isn't 1985. You don't need 3 stud RBs. You need WRs. Cards are built fine as-is.

Kendall Hunter is/was pretty good in relief of Frank Gore last year. 4.6 YPC and 3 TDs.

Robert Turbin and Chrisine Michael for the Seahawks aren't Pro Bowl players, but they'd start for teams in this league.

Knile Davis got some pub early for the Chiefs in relief of Jamaal Charles at times, although he's the steepest drop off of this group.

All of them are better players/prospects right now than the dropoff from Ellington to Dwyer/Kulabafi for the Cards.

Ugh. I wouldn't. Ellington's the best of the bunch, but for whatever reason, I think that people are underrating how good Hightower and LSH were in relief/situational roles during those playoff years.

I never said we were deep at RB. I said that we ran the ball well enough to keep the Texans from loading up against the pass. I am not sure that BA considers the run as important as you do. He seems to be more of a 'we run enough to keep the defense honest' type guy.

Whether we stay pat at RB, or go after one in trade, or pick up one after cuts, I put my trust in BASK to do what is right for the team. Finding another back is easy. Finding one who fits the scheme and CHEMISTRY that our current backs have, may be considerably harder. Just like I am not pleased with Johnathon Cooper's progress so far, I am not going to complain about it. I trust in this staff to help him get to where he needs to be.

Ok, so that is my point. Our depth at RB is a concern, especially explosiveness. After Ellington, we do not have a back on our roster who can make explosive plays out of the backfield or in the passing game. That is a concern because injuries happen in the NFL.

K9 said it best in terms of the huge amount of depth those teams you mentioned have at RB so I will not restate.

Further more, if Ellington is supposed to be such a huge and unique factor in our offense, it should be a concern that we do not have another back on our roster which offers similar burst and explosiveness. In the most physical division in the league, that is a concern.

Not to mention I believe Carlos Hyde will do just fine backing up Gore. Wish we had him.

It's one game but...

...Where the hell is John Abraham? I know he has a legal issue and the coaches are saying the right things about not being concerned, but when will we see our best (only) pass rush threat report to camp?

wondering the same thing. I hope he can come back. adding a major pass-rusher to what we saw on D will definitely take this D up a notch.

You forget, that just like us, Houston was not gameplanning, or making adjustments, like we will see in the regular season. They kept playing their base, for the most part, to evaluate talent. Just like we were. So, they were stuffing the run without scheming to do it really. Yeah, the RBs and run game are concern #1 for the staff now.

What we saw from the running game Saturday is not good enough to get us to where we want to be.
