He has been exceptional lately at getting mediocre players some high numbers but it's crunch time now. The season is on the line and you just have to WIN period from here on out, so it's time to put those incredible %'s to work and SHOOT THE BALL.
Nash will take what the defense gives him. If they leave him open, he'll shoot. If they play him tight and leave someone else, he will find them.
I would probably agree with this if I wasn't watching the games and watching him pass up shot after shot. Often times he has open shots in the middle of the lane but instead tries to pass out to teammates. He doesn't need to become Westbrook, but he does need to take what the defense gives him and occasionally create shots for himself.
Joe
He is perfectly capable of getting more than 6 shots up. For the last two months its almost like he is purposely trying NOT to shoot. When you are by far the best shooter on the team, you need to shoot. He could probably average 20 a night if he wanted but I'm not saying do that, just get more than 6 or 8 attempts a game.
If he was just going out there to get points and not trying to get assists he could easily average over 20. A healthy Steve Nash could have put up 20 ppg for a good stretch of his career if he wanted to. That wouldn't make him the Nash everyone knows as an assist man/floor general but there's no doubt he could do it. I'm not saying he should do that all I'm saying is put up 10 or 12 shots instead of 4.
I think you might be missing the point. For much of his career he did just what you're asking him to do now. Why do you think he suddenly stopped doing it? He's made a few remarks over the past couple years that shooting can be painful when his back/hip are acting up and my guess is that he's avoiding jumping as much as possible so he can continue to play. I think we're stuck with this version of Nash although I'm hoping that he'll throw caution to the wind as the season closes.
I sincerely believe his hip is giving him trouble but supposedly that injury happened in the Memphis game. He hasn't been putting up many shots for the last two months. If he can't finish a season out even though he is always commended on what incredible shape he is in then I don't know about a 3 year deal. His numbers are still out of this world as far as shooting percentages and assists go though.
