If Justin Simmons is not franchised by the Broncos, he would be a solid upgrade at S and would not require a trade. I like Adams better, but he would also likely cost a 1st and a 3rd.

I completely disagree with this post. When you have a QB on a rookie deal you do not waste that advantage by utilizing the "draft and develop" philosophy. Get proven NFL players at key positions any that you can including trading lottery tickets (aka draft picks) for them.
Agree to disagree, then. Great players rarely come available, and we're not even in that great of a cap situation.

I think the best comp for a team that followed this is the Browns right now... and they're not exactly taking the league by storm.

This team has no depth, and paying stars major contracts with no picks results in a bloated cap and no one to play when they go down with a hamstring injury for a quarter of the season.

Gotta stop trying to hand away draft picks for guys who want to get paid ASAP. We need to build a young team through the draft that will remain cheap, not reinvent the wheel consistently while handing away assets.

Always remember who is making those picks.
