An absolutely outstanding movie. I will see it in IMAX 3D at least once more.

As to the story, it was just fine. I think y'all forget sometimes that it's pretty darned rare to actually come up with really new material. Most movies, even ones everyone LOVES, are usually a rehash of another movie's plot. If it's done well, it's called "freshening." If it's done poorly, it's called "tired and worn." This one was definitely the former.

Special effects were undoubtedly the very best ever. 10 minutes into the movie, I was fully believing it. Simply WOW!!!

It's everything I expected it to be. 4.9 out of 5 stars.

The special effects are just amazing, the story is believeable but nothing to write home about, it was a great movie just for the effects alone.

Spectacular movie. Definitely one of the best of the year.

The story was fine, it provoked an emotional response, which is all it needs to do. You're not going to get Memento or Pulp Fiction from a script written by James Cameron.

I went to the midnight showing and I really enjoyed it. The 3D was the best I've seen. It was amazing visually and the characters looked very real. It did drag at times, partly because I was so tired and it's a very long movie, but the story was just fine. I loved what they did with it.

Very well made movie indeed. The effects were wonderful. Definitely a movie that if you have interest in watching must be watched in theatre so that you can get the full experience.

I liked the storyline. I thought it was made well and that it flowed nicely and kept you engaged.

The first hour and a half of the film passed so fast because of the fantasy aspect and it felt as if you were experiencing this world just as the main character was.

I saw it last night. Unfortunately the 3D IMAX was sold out so we just saw the regular version. I really like the movie. They imagination of the flora and fauna of Pandora was remarkable. The movie was fairly predictable, but entertaining none the less. I was able to look past the liberal undertones. The effects and cinematography were stunning and the storyline tugged at your heartstrings. Overall, I thought it was a great flick and very entertaining. 4 out of 5 stars. If you think about it, Avatar is basically the Sci Fi version of Pocahontas.

Watched this at the IMAX last night. Wow, what an experience. Probably the most engaging movie I've ever watched at a theater.

Sam Worthington is going to make an excellent Perseus in the upcoming Clash of the Titans remake.

Five big fat gigantic stars -- and that was at Cine Capri, big screen but not 3-D.

What a wonderful movie -- classic film and fiction mythologies all converged and in nice balance: great action flick, charming romance with an ominous shadow of tragedy, every variation on David and Goliath and good vs. evil imaginable, personal redemption, cowboys and indians, spiritual vs. material, and pure cool fantasy. Visually stunning (I'm going to see it again in 3D for sure, but it was beautiful even without), decently written, and Cameron may have actually earned the title "King of the World," for the time being anyhow. Impressive.

Saw it at IMAX - maybe it's just me but I don't like IMAX. It's too "in your face" and this movie had too much going on with all the chases, firebombs, gunfire, explosions. I left with a headache :|

Wouldn't call it exactly an original storyline: it's all history that took place in the USA during the late 1800's.

The flora and fauna was amazing, though!

I saw it in real 3d and loved it. I was going to ask if people think IMAX is better or not? After the movie one of the guys near us was saying how he thinks IMAX is too close and you lose the peripheral stuff which seems to be what DeAnna said here?

And yes it's basically the same story of what we did to the American Indian or what Australians did to the Aborigine but I thought they did a nice job with the story. It's predictable at times but the story didn't drag.

Considering the hype I was surprised that it lived up to it, loved the 3D.

I wonder if anybody has considered that it was supposed to parallel what happened in the 1800s? A lot of people keep complaining about the story, but in reality, the story does exactly what it is supposed to do. It didn't affect my enjoyment of the movie at all. If people went into this thinking they were going to see a special effects filled Memento or Usual Suspects script, they were going to be disappointed no matter what.

IMAX - you have to sit middle, towards the back.

And yes, I saw the parallels to our earlier history.

Hell = it is even going on today, Thanks to Senator McCain/Kyl and the land grab for Copper Mining in Oak Flat.

Wonderful movie. I thought the story was actually quite good, as you could easily see the comparisons drawn to the 1800's of our country and probably more importantly, comparisons to how we are "destroying" our planet now. The special effects were just amazing.

Though I am a bit confused over Folster's comment of "liberal undertones."

Because the Corporate miners were not the heroes, that destruction of the planet was portrayed negatively.

That's not entirely true.
Yes, Giovanni Ribisi gave the go-ahead to attack, but by him helping Jake later in the film, it showed that he wasn't there just to destroy the Navi, he was open to a more diplomatic solution if it was possible. Remember, the military pretty much went off on their own in the end, attacking when they probably should not have. There is definitely a difference between the "corporate miners" and the military complex.

Since it so closely paralleled our history, it just made me mildly uncomfortable. Those were sad times for the Native Americans; I wonder if any would actually go see this movie if they knew.

I'm going to go see this movie sometime this week can't wait :). I defintally want to go to the imax to see it. So how far in advance should you buy tickets for the imax to make sure it isn't sold out? Thanks by the way so glad this lived up to the hype and is getting good reviews not crappy ones!!!

My wife and I did. And the majority of the theater goers were.

My wife and I knew what to expect as I read comparisons to Dances With Wolves and Pocahontas.

We actually joked at work that it was nice to see "us" win one for a change.

This past weekend it was sold out a day or two in advance (Arizona Mills).

The "blue chick" was played by Zoe Saldana, who played Uhura in the new Star Trek.
