The Jared Veldheer speculation has some holes in it. Apparently he does have an offer but the numbers reported are not correct. It seemed like way too rich a deal for him and if accurate he should have jumped all over it. I am guessing it is low enough that he thinks he can do better. They could have franchised him for the nut that was rumored and still negotiated a long term deal.

I don't see why any FA would sign a deal before Saturday. Even Demarcus Ware is willing to be released than take a pay cut because he would be the most sought after FA on the market and land a big payday.

ARZ should have plenty to choose from, the problem with be do they have enough $$$ to outbid some of the teams willing to overpay such as MIA who will be in on Monroe & Albert and maybe even Collins.

The Raiders have a tonne of cap space, don't they? They should be able to pony up if they want to.

John Clayton just reported on Sportscenter that Monroe and Veldheer are

likely to stay where the team they are on now. He says Cards and Dolphins

are after Branden Albert.

Jeez, what will Albert get!??

Remember you have to see what is guaranteed. If they back load the deal they could cut him if he doesn't play up to the deal and he could never see all the money. If he is only guaranteed $20M like Peters got, then it is a fair deal.

Report: Cardinals set their sights on Jared Veldheer

Posted by Josh Alper on March 9, 2014, 5:30 PM EDT

The Cardinals are looking for a tackle in free agency and expressed early interest in Branden Albert, but they are turning their attention elsewhere with word that Albert will be headed to Miami.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the team has set its sights on Jared Veldheer. The Raiders opted not to use the franchise or transition tag on Veldheer last week, leaving the 26-year-old on track to sign with any team he chooses come Tuesday.

Somers thinks Veldheer will come in as a cheaper alternative to Albert and points out that he’s three years younger than the longtime member of the Chiefs. They won’t be the only team chasing him, however, and the Raiders are believed to have made an offer to keep him.

Should Veldheer land elsewhere, the Cardinals will be moving on to other options. Somers reports that any interest they may have had in Rodger Saffold has “cooled.” Eugene Monroe, Michael Oher and Anthony Collins are some of the other tackles on PFT‘s list of the Hot 100 free agents.

I haven't watched a single minute of Raider football in the last ten years other than when they play the Cards. Is there anyone out there that has seen more of him than me that can answer if he is any good? I know nothing about the guy.

I think he's better than Albert, Albert has never played a full season pretty much had one great year last year.he's younger and has much more upside he missed pretty much all of last year though

Appreciate it.

I did my own checking and NFL.com has them ranked Monroe #1, Veldheer #2, and Albert #3, with Monroe being the # 2 best available free agent after Byrd from Buffalo. Veldheer is ranked #6 overall.

Agree with you on Albert. Let the Fins have him.

Helps Cards RT @JohnMiddlekauff: Text from agent RE Veldheer: don't forget state income tax/Cal cost of living. Worth 500k EASY, maybe more

Unless you are referring to the false rumors from yesterday that he had agree to a contract.

Lots of raiders fans and experts view him as the Best player of the roster. Granted! That roster is arguebly the thinnest in the league, but still.

He's a lower round pick that has been a Development project for the raiders, but has developed into being considered in the top 10 LT in the league. He was injured this season, but I believe his in the top 10 if you look at the complete package. He's solid in pass protection and very good in run blocking.

I like what I hear about Veldeheer as a player, but the steroid rumors scare me. Not because of a possible failed test, because I believe the majority of the NFL is using something, but the Triceps injury is a tell tale sign of steroid use. Steroids cause the muscle to grow and strengthen much bigger stronger and faster than the connective tissue, which leads to chronic injuries exactly like his. I'm afraid he may have had his year or two in the spotlight from the steroids and now we'll be paying him a huge contract just to watch those steroids tear his body apart.

I may be wrong, I hope I am. The one thing that puts my mind at ease is that he's played with Palmer before. If Palmer had one negative word to say about him, I don't think we'd be after him.
