Kidding aside, I'd seriously vote for Kevin Smith for president over Kerry, unless his issue stance was similar or worse. He's smart, has plenty of integrity, and, most importantly, ISN'T Kerry.

Too bad he's a sell-out. :D

Jersey Girl.

Wow, I thought you were actually smart, Chap, not one of those mindless 'Kevin Smith has to write Jay and Silent Bob his entire life' drones. Jersey Girl was a damn good movie. It tackled a very touching story with a wonderfully comedic and witty dialogue and style that only Kevin Smith could achieve, IMO. Sellout? It's movie weenies like YOU who sell out when they knock Smith for this :p

Once again, a-hole Stout appears--I guess you were due, huh?

Oh, and I don't remember ever saying that the movie was bad. Your selective memory is about as reliable as a Pinto.

When you say he's a sellout for making Jersey Girl, why is that exactly? The guy, to me, seems to be living the dream of every indie filmmaker - make a few successful independent films, win some fans, show what he has, and start making the big bucks doing big-budget pictures.

Kevin Smith is living the American dream - why do you begrudge him that? Is he supposed to stay broke the rest of his life, selling off his comic book collection each time he wants to finance a movie, just so you, Chaplin, can proudly say, "See? There's a guy who's not selling out, and is keeping it real."

When a man forgoes his personal vision to produce cookie-cutter, audience-pleasing schlock, that's selling out. I don't fault him for wanting to make money, but did he REALLY have to make a movie like Jersey Girl just to make money?

Wow...first of all, I guess I wrongly read your smilied comments as tongue-in-cheek, and I guess I didn't put my tongue-in-cheek across well enough, although I thought the tongue out smilie was adequate enough. Lighten up, Chaplin...jumping my case and calling me names in what I (thought) was an exchange of ribbing is amateurish. I thought you were an expert and were able to maintain a good intellectual stance, but moments like these expose the fact that you cannot, I suppose. Try not to overreact to nothing in the future, pal.

Oh, since it's not YOUR personal vision of what Kevin Smith's personal vision is, it must be cookie-cutter, audience-pleasing schlock? Did you even see the movie?

Kevin Smith took a story that would be soap-opera under normal circumstances, made a gritty and believable grandfather, a sharp kid, an outrageously cool love interest, and an in-depth Affleck character...not all easy things to do under the circumstances. He also kept a gritty edge to the script, wrote his usual masterful dialogue, and, hell, made me cry when J-Lo died...THAT should be friggin' impossible.

No, this is anything but cookie-cutter, Chappy. This was a damn good, though not great, film. I laugh to think that many jumped him saying Mallrats was a sellout movie, and now they're jumping him for this. He's moving on. He's still got magic writing and directing talent. Just because you may not like his movie, doesn't make him a sellout. Not by a longshot.

I'm guessing that you didn't understand the reference to, "Why would you wanna keep writing stuff about characters who's main theme is dick and fart jokes? You gotta grow, man." in J&SBSB.

For the record, I did not like J&SBSB at all. Saw it once, and then promptly forgot about it...

First of all, I admit you pose a good argument.

Second of all, my name is not Chappy or pal. I never said I didn't like the movie either.

Then why's Smith a sellout? You have yet to illustrate your argument in a clear and concise manner, other than to name call and to SAY he sold out.

Sorry about Chappy and pal, then...didn't think it would really offend you.
