I guess people are afraid to hurt a player's status as a starter when he has been loyal to the organization from the get go. Now, I respect his qualifications as a workhorse and as a class act, but to have him ranked in the same breath as Trotter is foolhardy, I agree.

This "blind faith" is costing us unnecessary cap room for Emmitt Smith as well.

If I have one negative comment towards Bidwill, Graves and Green, it is that they have shut their eyes to the fact that Emmitt is done like dinner yet they hold on.

Blind Faith is the ASFN Cardinals Board House Band.

I'd love to see Trooter brought in, but I doubt it VERY highly it would happen.

With Dansby, Hayes and Thompson that is our future at LB, you also have to factor in Fisher (depending on how he comes back from surgery). We also have Darling and Woods on this team there is no way I think Trotter is brought in. Hayes will probably replace McKinnon in the middle after this year.

I actually like Blind Faith they were one of the first super groups.

The E Smith is a respect thing. They want Shipp to get his shot true and if he can't they will look for another RB but E Smith is a backup. I think the Bidwills promised E Smith 2 years when they signed him (listen to the DG new conference day 1) they would give him 2 years and not disrespect his career by cutting him. I think they all want to honour the promise made when he was signed.

Trotter does fit the profile of FA DG wants a youngish productive player. Could they structure a deal to be able to afford him. I think he is a very solid player.

He would be an immediate upgrade though. You would have to release McKinnon and probably one more to reconcile the cost.

Dansby, Trotter and Hayes could be a very solid group for the next 3 or 4 years.

I don't pretend to know the money ramifications which are always a major point in these issues. But if I had my way:

Sign Trotter, release McKinnon and Darling!!! It's about winning!

There are a few misconceptions on here as to how much a player if cut will save us. Here are the real numbers. The signing remaining signing bonus amount was divided in half since after june 1st the remaining bonus is spread over this year and next year. I also added James Hodgins since he seems to be the most likely to be cut IMO.

Code:
Base Salary	Remaining Bonus	Total Cap Savings
McKinnon	$1,650,000	$300,000	$1,350,000
Darling $850,000	$225,000	$625,000
E.Smith $2,500,000	$625,000	$1,875,000
Hodgins $1,000,000	$375,000	$625,000

As for what Trotter will be looking for regarding his contract, he will probably want the same one he got in Washington in 2002. 7 years, 28.5 mill. in Base salary, and 7 mill in signing bonus.

If we work out his contract correctly he will only have a cap hit of 1.525 mill(1 mill signing bonus + the vet minimum). Then slowly raise his base salary throughout his contract, instead of the straight forward contracts we usually give out which would turn out to be $5,071,429 a year.

Also we still have about 4.2 million left to spend after the rookie cap space is taken out and using the rule of 51. So in essence we dont have to get rid of McKinnon to sign Trotter.

Also were did this Hayes moving to MLB come from. The coaches have never mentioned and is only a speculation on our part. Plus Hayes is way to small to play in this dline sheme since it puts a lot of pressure on the MLB to take on the blocks of guards. So he is not an option IMO when McKinnon leaves.

Also here are the teams that theoreticlly have enough cap space to sign Trotter seperated into teams that could use him and teams that wont look at him.

Will not look at:

1. Minnesota Vikings(EJ Henderson is there future)
2. Dallas Cowboys(they are happy with Wong)
3. Philadelphia Eagles(burned bridges)
4. Jacksonville Jaguars(they just signed Mike Peterson)
5. Miaim Dolphins(They may want to get younger but he and Thomas will not match to well)
6. Detriot Lions(Earl Holmes and they just signed Walli Rainer)
7. Baltimore Ravens(there LB core is set)

Will look at:

1. New Orleans Saints(Could be a destination with only Huff as the starter)
2. Kansas City Chiefs(Mike Maslowski is there starter nuff said)
3. Cleveland Browns(there whole LB core is nothing special)
4. Indianapolis Colts(Rob Morris is there starter)
5. Arizona Cardinals(youner and better then McKinnon)
6. Seattle Seahawks(age and MLB is their weak link)

My best guess is that he goes to Seattle since he likes his old coach Ray Rhodes.

joeshmo,

Thanks for your attempt at crunching the #'s re: Trotter, but it ain't that simple. Why:

a)After the rookie pool, we have like $1.8 MM (give or take). So,to be able to afford Trotter, we would have to let a few players go, as you have correctly noted. While cutting Hodgins is OK by me, there is no way they will let Smith loose. I wish they would, but they won't. It will be tough to get the equivalent of Smith's savings elsewhere to make up the difference.

What is the cap situation for those teams that you indicate might be interested in Trotter? Indianapolis for one is out.....and I think Seattle is also is a tight situation. So assuming he'd go to Seattle is unfounded speculation based solely on his relationship with Ray Rhodes. Remember, Holmgren holds the HC job, not Ray.

He REALLY likes Dennis Green.

What relationship with Ray Rhodes are we talking about here? Did Trotter ever even play for Rhodes - I thought he was there during Andy Reid's tenure - was Rhodes ever his DC - I thought Johnson's been the DC there ever since Reid took over.

Edit: Or did Rhodes coach him while Rhodes was in Washington? Is that what you guys are referring to? Was Rhodes a coach in Washington?

Indy and Seattle are both not in any kind of cap situation. They both have plenty of cash to spend, as do all of the other teams I mentioned. I only mentioned the teams that have enough cap space. As for us only having 1.8 mill that is not correct by at least 3 mill.

Go here and it is all explained:

http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29579&highlight=rookie

The above is a chart of all of the teams salary status as well as a note from AdamJT13 (he is a salary cap guru from many different message boards, very knowledgeable). I used the correct salary cap numbers and the correct rookie pools but I forgot to adjust for the rule of 51 which means for ever team add approximatly 1-2.5 mill. to there totals(becuase of the reason Adam noted). As for us the exact amount we have left to spend after the rookie pool is about 4.2 million. Now minus the 1 mill for injury we have about 3.2 mill. left to spend.

As for cutting or not cutting Smith I have no idea I was just correcting some of the posts that mis-stated what his cap implications would be if we cut him.

Rhodes worked for Philly from 1995-98 as Head Coach. He was the one that drafted Trotter. They have always had a good relationship.
