How DC Ray Horton Impacted This Game

His defense for the second straight road game in a highly hostile environment played inspired football to the tune of creating 9 turnovers in that span.

Daryl Washington was outstanding once again---all over the field making plays and tackling RBs the way MLBers are supposed to do---get underneath their pad level and take their legs out.

Kerry Rhodes played perhaps his best game as a Cardinal---he was the best safety on the field, which was nice retribution for him. Rhodes, who has been inconsistent in his tenure with the Cardinals, appears to be reinvented and rejuvenated by Ray Horton.

Patrick Peterson is starting to play the CB position with authority---his phenomenal acrobatic interception on the deep post should make every highlight reel of top plays for the year.

Dan Williams played his butt off.

Greg Toler and William Gay were excellent---Gay should have had the 4th interception as he had jumped his man's route perfectly.

The only real negative was Adrian Wilson's two off-sides penalties, the second of which came at the worst possible time and cost the team the chance to at least have the ball with the game on the line.

How STC Kevin Spencer Impacted This Game:

The kicking game was excellent. Feely and Zastudil did their jobs.

The 40 yard punt fake run by Rashad Johnson was the offensive play of the game for the Cardinals---and led to half of their points in the game. Even the FOX crew knew that Spencer's punting team is prepared to run that fake whenever they see a "bunch" formation.

How HC/OC Ken Whisenhunt Impacted This Game:

Take away Rashad Johnson's 40 yard run on the punt fake---

Total Offense: 97 yards. (That's less than 25 yards per quarter)

Rookie QB Ryan Lindley's line: 10/31, 72 yards, 0 TDs 1 int.

Veteran WR Larry Fitzgerald's line: 1/23/0

Veteran RB Beanie Wells' line: 15/22, including a -2 yard dive to the turf under pressure on a key 4th and inches.

Third Down Conversions: 0 for 15

How Ken Whisenhunt Has Impacted the Last 3 Games:

With his team playing inspired football at NFC best Atlanta and still in playoff contention at 4-5---with the Cardinals up 13 to 3---Whisenhunt benches John Skelton in favor of a rookie who has never taken a snap in the NFL. Here are the results:

0-3 record to fall to 4-8

Lindley's line: 50/103, 48.2%, 448 yards, 0 TD, 5 int.

Today's Stat of the Game Beside 0 for 15 Third Down Conversions---

The yards Kerry Rhodes and Rashad Johnson accumulated on their two runs off the interception and punt fake respectively were nearly as many yards as the Cardinals' offense scored all game.

Final Comment: At least Rex Ryan as stubborn as he has been about benching Mark Sanchez got to the point where he couldn't let his team or the Jets' fans suffer any longer.

We will never know whether John Skelton would have come to the rescue as he did last year---but for Whisenhunt to put the fate of the team that is fighting its tails off on defense and special teams stricly and solely in the hands of a clearly overwhelmed and ill-prepared rookie 6th rounder is reckless, pig-headed and utterly irresponsible.

If the Cardinals let Ray Horton get away in favor of retaining Whisenhunt this is going to be a travesty.

You hear of players quitting on the coach---well, what we are seeing is a head coach who has clearly quit on the players.

If he was trying everything in the book---there's integrity in that. But to sit there, do nothing and let everyone suffer---his defense---his offense---his special teams---and ironically the person who was suffering the most was Ryan Lindley himself---you could see it in his face---

Like I said---at least Rex Ryan had the mercy to try to stop his team and the fans from suffering any longer---

Not Whisenhunt....

And ironically the last time a Cardinal HC quit on the team it was Rex Ryan's father.

So you praise Rex Ryan for seeing what he has in an unknown quantity rather than going with something he knows doesn't work, but then hammer Whis because he doesn't go back to a something he knows doesn't work in favor of getting more information on an unknown quantity?

It's killing me, but not playing Lindley until Kolb gets back would be the worst thing a team out of it could do. You HAVE to KNOW what you have in Lindley because you need to know how many QBs you need to get in the offseason. Can he be a starter? Can he be a back up? Does he improve game to game? These are not questions you can answer with him on the bench for an already known player in Skelton.

Depressing but honest assessment of the game and situation. Does anybody in the Cardinal organization give a damn about the fans??

Yeah you see the Patriots do this all the time.

That's the most ridiculous statement ever.

Think of all of the bad teams between 1961 and today that didn't quite suck as bad as this team today.

Mitch IMO you're best words yet!!!

I've clearly been on the Wiz bandwagon from start until finish, until today!!!

After the game, my tuned changed as I heard Wiz tell us fans on the post game that coaches discussed making a QB change. Then they didn't? Maybe I was blind in watching Lindley, whom i believe complete 8-24 passes (30%) at the half when the HC didn't put him on the pine.:bang: Wiz did you really give you're team the best chance to win today? No ****ing way...you let your team down, including me with those words today.

It's time...losing twice to a less talented Lambs team & a highly dysfunctional Jets team gets coaches fired. The question is, how does Ray Horton solve our offensive problems?

Doesn't bother me a bit that he didn't go to Skelton. We know he is not a starting NFL QB. What bothers me the most? The fact that WHIZ NAMED SKELTON THE STARTING QB TO BEGIN THE 2012 SEASON!

So to start the season Skelton was good enough to be the starter but Whiz now has come to the conclusin after 2 years that he is no longer in the Cards plans.

The way Whiz handles QB's today and in his career will be his demise.

Ridiculous comparison to Patriots. They have Tom Brady. If we had Brady, we wouldn't have to play Lindley either. Did Whiz play his 3rd string QB when we had Warner on the roster? Obviously no.

When your starter can't stay healthy, and your backup is garbage, yeah, you have to know what you have in your third strong QB. Especially when he is a rookie.

Basically, the Cards are finding out if they cut Kolb, do they need to sign another vet to backup whomever they bring in, or can Lindley be the guy.

The statement isn't ridiculous at all. You comparing our situation to the Patriots is far more ridiculous. There is a difference in finding out what you have in a 3rd string QB of 15 years like Charlie Batch and a rookie QB who had show some good things in practice (supposedly).

Yea I have been holding out on the fire Whiz stuff. But the last thing I want is to lose Horton. Promote Horton to HC as soon as the season ends. Fire Whiz, and find an O coordinator.

Agree with most everything but this was not a highly hostile environment at all. If anything the hostility was the fans towards the Jets and Sanchez in particular.

Not winning any games with 5 first downs and 2 FGs.

It still doesn't solve our offensive issues unless we make a Romo or Rivers blockbuster trade.

Did you see Lindley's face during the game? I'm not sure he even thought he should be out there.

There's no real development or evaluation going on with Lindley right now. If anything, the coaches are hurting his confidence by making him start long before he's ready to see the field. How can anyone accurately evaluate a player after they put that player in a clear position to fail?

Well said. The Cardinals had a chance (only a chance) to win the game if Whiz had played Skelton after Lindley appeared totally lost but they chose not to play him. Certainly by the 4th quarter there could be no doubt. Lindley seemed totally befuddled the whole day. The debate on who should be the Cardinals QB for the future is over. IMO, he is not on the roster. As I see it, Whiz did not chose the best opportunity to win the game by not playing Skelton to make a point. What he proved is he is stubborn to a fault.

I brought my 10 year old son to this game...

....his 1st NFL game ever....met some cool Cardinals fans. I just can't believe Whis left Lindley in the entire game. Lindley's accuracy was so poor, I can't imagine a scenario where he is cashing NFL paychecks in 2013. Did Whis really need to "see more"??? Just don't understand how he thought we could mount any sort of offense when the kid can't even complete a simple wide open screen pass. Besides, who could be successful with that style of facial hair?

We were fortunate enough to have pre-game sideline passes, a few observations:

- John Skelton was cool enough to come over and take pictures with some kids, including my son.

- Laron Byrd looks super fast, and runs smooth routes.

- Anthony Sherman's legs and gluteus maximus are, well, significant. It's no wonder he trucks some many LBs in the hole. Dude is thick, and also said hi to my son.

- Quentin Groves appears to really be in a good place mentally. He was all smiles during warm ups, and rocked a sweet air drums during the drum solo portion of Phil Collins' "In the air tonight"....

- Early Doucet was making some sweet 1-handed catches. Granted there was no defense on the field.

- Bobbie Massie is a seriously large human being.

- Once he and Whis are let go, Russ Grimm should be able to catch on as a walker on The Walking Dead no problem. Same lifeless appearance for the majority of the day.

This was the first Cardinals game I attended in person since the Super Bowl. It's always cool to see so many other Cardinals fans, a true rarity for me.

My son feel asleep on the drive home. When we finally arrived, he woke up and sad he had a bad dream. I inquired, and he replied "I dreamt CKW kept Lindley in the entire game". I should have apologized for turning him into a Cardinals fan, but I could only laugh.

Let's get 'em next year.
