Nice! Thanks dave!
No problem! It was great to see Jim, and so classy of him to thank everyone for "remembering" him! Those of us who were fans back in the day could never forget!

There was(is) a picture of Jim Hart in the Hall of Fame that is in old Busch Stadium. The entire field is dark but there is a ray of sun coming through one of the arches right on the Cardinal huddle with Hart kneeling down calling the play.

It has been a long time since I saw that picture...would love to find it online.

He had no D....Those mid 70's teams offensively were a treat to watch...

They had the talent in '84 on both sides but got screwed on a obvious bogus call in what amounted to a title game against the Redskins for the division. If we had that '84 team going into this season, I would feel more than confident :cards:

Living in Oklahoma we were screwed by having the Cowboys on every weekend and 1 other game, so we didn't get the Cardinals that often unfortunately. Remember Hart and that high octane offense well. Terry Metcalf was a stud, Jim Otis a bull, Mel Gray. Loved watching them move up and down the field on the Cowpies

That was Lomax and yes I remember the bogus roughing the passer call on EJ Junior very well...Cost us the game....

Sometimes there advantages to being an old guy. When Jim Hart came to the Cards in 1966 they had a decent vet QB named Charley Johnson. After it became apparent Hart could play fans and to some extent the locker room split behind their man. Eventually Hart won out. The deal about defense became most pronounced as the 1975 trade deadline approached. Those were the Cardiac Cards who could win games by outscoring the opposition. They lost close games when the other team had the ball last and could take it to the defense. Ken Houston of Washington was available at the trade deadline. He was an All-Pro safety. Dollar Bill, much to Coryell's disapproval, refused to spend the payroll to get him. With Houston the Cards were likely a Super Bowl team. Most of us never forgave him.

Charley Johnson was no slouch either, he had some good game in him. Jim Hart was pretty good and I began to follow the Cardinals seriously about the time he became QB. Coryell was a great innovator on the offensive side and had some weapons to use. Those were the good old days indeed!

I'm with Bucky, Cowboy front runner fans are the most annoying and most of their players as well. Staubach, Merideth, and Aikman were all pretty cool but that's all that I can remember.

Believe Johnson was drafted. Military draft that is.

Charley went to Houston & Denver after leaving the Cards. His only action was on the field. Sadly his best years were with the Cards and he gradually faded after that.

That's a great highlight video Czar! Give those Teams of the Air Coryell genesis a defense and a grass practice field and they may have won the Super Bowl at least once!

LOVE those old uniforms too! The Football Cardinals always at least looked like the best Team on the field no matter who they played!

I clapped when he walked up to the podium. Great to see him on stage representing the team.

Agreed. When it was announced that we traded up and then I saw Hart come out, I was sure we were taking a QB. It just seemed too perfect. :) Glad we didn't.

When I was living in Bozeman, MT years ago, Jan Stenerud (a Montana State alum) put on a charity golf tournament with a lot of his NFL and sports buddies, one of whom was Jim Hart. I worked as a small town sportscaster covering MSU and the local media got to pick a star to caddy for.. I chose Jim and he was one of the nicest guys ever. It was refreshing to meet a childhood hero who seemed as cool off the field as he was on. He told me some great stories. He said after his playing career he and Dan Dierdorf both got into broadcasting at about the same time. He said a station manager told Hart he had a great future in broadcasting, but Dierdorf not so much. Jim Hart laughed and talked about how funny it was that his broadcasting career didn't last long and Dierdorf ended up with a lengthy career in the booth. The next year I got to caddy for Neil Lomax and he wasn't as cool as Jim Hart.

He was drafted into the military in 67 I believe....
