There was(is) a picture of Jim Hart in the Hall of Fame that is in old Busch Stadium. The entire field is dark but there is a ray of sun coming through one of the arches right on the Cardinal huddle with Hart kneeling down calling the play.

It has been a long time since I saw that picture...would love to find it online.

Unfortunately Jim isn't in the picture. Judging by how everyone is standing around, it's probably from a commercial break and Hart was on the sideline talking to, more than likely Coryell.

They had the talent in '84 on both sides but got screwed on a obvious bogus call in what amounted to a title game against the Redskins for the division. If we had that '84 team going into this season, I would feel more than confident :cards:
I think the more bogus call was against Dallas. Lomax hit Roy Green for a potential tying TD on a bomb but it was called back on a bogus offensive PI call.

Jim Hart was my first football hero. He will always be one of my favorite Cardinals. My only knock on him was that he refused to mentor Neil Lomax. While I can dig that you think you can still play but by 1980 Jim Hart was basically done and when the Cards drafted Lomax in 1981, he had a chance to mentor him but he basically blew Lomax off(I got this from Lomax's book 3rd and Long). I honestly believe, though, that if he had won a couple of playoff games he'd be in the hall of fame.

I was born in '76, so I didn't get to watch him live.. :cards:

I did enjoy seeing him come out and make the pick! That was cool!

Awesome...thank you! Funny how your brain remembers things differently. I visited the Hall of Fame back in the 90's and would have bet that Jim Hart was in the picture. Thank you for saving me some money. :)

Remember this too. I was watching a season in review show that year and they highlighted this play as the worst call of the year. It was actually defensive interference.

IIRC it was Dennis Thurmond who was notorious for grabbing and holding receivers. Had the Cards won that game, the final game in Washington would have been incidental.

We were there in 2009 and I saw this picture. You couldn't paint a better picture of the sun breaking through at Busch.

My first ever live game was in Philly in 1978. Cards were in the throes of an 0-12 run that stretched back to the end of the 1977 season. We sat in the 700 level of the old Vet. Jim Otis scored the first TD. Roger Wherli intercepted Ron Jaworski to seal the game. Cards won 16-10. The biggest thrill in my young life.
