The Mora rumour was on the NFL Network late this afternoon. Philly and Denver were also mentioned.

According to the Denver Post, former Falcons and Seahawks coach Jim Mora will likely take over as the Broncos' new defensive coordinator.
Mora was in town to interview Monday, and the meeting apparently went well. Mora turned around an abysmal 49ers defense under Steve Mariucci from 1999-2003 before head coaching stints in Atlanta and Seattle. Like head coach John Fox, Mora's background is in the 4-3 scheme, so the Broncos are in for yet another seismic shift on defense. Should Mora land in Denver, Dick Jauron would seem to be the favorite in Philadelphia.

Hey look at all the qualified d coordinators getting jobs while we wait to possibly interview someone who has never been one. Sounds like a great plan to me.

Well I hope like hell, that the Cardinals know that Butler is going to take this job, or at least have a fool proof backup plan.

The plot just keeps on thickening..

There's a reason why these amazing, experienced coaches are available in the first place.

Yeah because if a different team won the SB every year it would take 32 years for each team to get a Lombardi Trophy.

Winning the SB is the be all end all for the NFL. So 31 teams end up as failures every year. Teams fail and coaches get canned. That's why these amazing, experienced coaches are available.

It's also why guys can get to a SB once and suddenly be considered amazing and suck the rest of their careers. As for Mora Jr., I don't even know that he's done anything amazing as a coordinator?

He was D-coordinator in San Fran from 99-03 and other than that he's never been a D-coordinator. Those years as D-co his D allowed 453, 422, 282, 351, 337.

I see two awful years, two average years and one good year in the middle there. Hardly amazing.

they had a foolproof backup plan for the QB position last year so I wouldn't worry too much ;).

Looks like Mora will be hired by the Bronco's.

Broncos' head coach John Fox has nearly completed the hiring of his staff, with the likely addition of Jim Mora as defensive coordinator according to Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post.

Mora, a former Atlanta and Seattle head coach, traveled to Denver on Monday to meet with Fox.

Mora, 49, was the defensive coordinator with San Francisco for five years before his two head coaching jobs, first Atlanta and then Seattle in 2009. He spent 2010 working as an analyst for the NFL Network.

Of course they have a plan. Whiz recently realized that when the offense in not on the field he has plenty of downtime on his hands so he will take over calling the defensive sets as well so he isn't as bored when the defense in on the field.:p

I would never really hold failure as a HC against an OC or DC too much unless it was particularly bizzare and troubling.

HC is a hugely different skillset than being a good OC or DC, different worlds.

The NFL is very backwards when it comes to the business of training it's head coaching candidates IMO, there's very little structure to it and just because you are a aces OC or DC does not mean you would ever be a decent HC.

Where is Buddy Ryan when we need him?

I suspect there are some really good DCs in the college ranks if we would look. NFL coaches do not start out as NFL coaches. Perhaps a smart college DC might be better than a used NFL DC who is no longer an innovator? I wonder what Division I college DC had the best defense in the nation?

The Ravens DC this past season came from the College ranks. Coached at A&M, Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida.
