CBS Sportsline has a write up on a possible 1st round QB that I have never heard of. Are there Eastern Illinois fans that can give us a heads up on him?

QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois
A quarterback prospect who isn't quite as well-known, Garoppolo has been creating a little bit of a buzz in NFL circles over the last few months. And his productive senior season has only helped those whispers grow louder and louder. Garoppolo is completing 65.9 percent of his passes (172-for-261) with 2,359 passing yards and a notable 28-to-4 TD-to-INT ratio, leading Eastern Illinois to a 5-1 record this season. He has faced two FBS-level defenses in 2013 (Northern Illinois, San Diego State) and answered both challenges with impressive performances: 65-for-95 (68.4 percent) for 711 yards, nine touchdown and two interceptions. Garoppolo is a good-sized, rhythm quarterback with excellent accuracy, timing and a quick release that really helps him be efficient from the pocket. He sets up quickly and shows good lower body movement skills to evade pressure and deliver from different platforms. Garoppolo will get dinged by some teams for his “ordinary” arm strength and probably won't be a fit for every team, although he sure looks like he can make all the necessary throws in the NFL. He grades as a top-100 prospect for several with one scout telling me first round is a real possibility.

I take it then you have followed this guy's college tenure and watched a bulk of his games, thanks for the clarification on his value :)

I live in Charleston...he has had a great year and has been very consistent over his career. I would take him in the 4th or 5th and develop him under Palmer for a year or two.

and furthermore,

Aaron Rodgers - Cal
Peyton Manning - Tennessee
Andrew Luck - Stanford
Elway - Also Stanford

What point are you trying to make? School size doesnt matter to me just like a guys height doesnt matter to me.

For every small school name you come up with I can give you 10 more from a big school. It doesnt matter. What does matter is what you do in those small schools.

Derek Carr is from Fresno, not a powerhouse. But he mangles his competition. That matters. If you are in a small school, you need to perform above your schools competition. Bortles doesnt. Garoppolo doesnt. Jordan Lynch as a pocket passer doesnt (he does as a scrambler though, but hes not being drafted as a RB)

A guy who performs OK vs OK schools is not going to be an OK QB at the NFL level.

If a QB isnt worth taking in the 1st 2 rounds, then he isnt worth taking in the next 5 because theres no value in drafting a backup.

Well, unless your not a longtime Cardinal fan, the point he is making is that it's a list of basically the Cardinal's all time greatest QBs and they all share this aspect. That is the point and it is a very sharp point which he could have written in cursive and it would have looked very elegant and made perfect sense to a Cardinal fan... and if your going to make it a point to stress that the QB should mangle his opponents to show his worth if from a small school, then do not present Timmy Chang as an example of failure as you cited earlier because he did do just that :)

So youre saying, due to history, the Cardinals will only find a franchise QB from a small school, and thus the Cards front office should focus on those small QBs and shun any big school QB, because history says all big school QBs are failures with this franchise

bravo

Youre right I wasnt thinking like a cardinals fan. I was trying to use logic. my bad

Thank you for the bravo, as a University of Texas/ Yale EX I'm used to people praising me for my intelligence. I ONLY acknowledged that QBs can come from small schools as well and that the Cardinals seem to have had some good ones from small schools...I will forgive you for your obstinance this time lol

I agree with those who say that QB's come from a diverse array of Colleges. Naturally, most come from the BIG schools, but not all.

I only saw him play for a brief period in the Bowling Green game so I really don't have a good take on him as a pocket passer but these numbers stand out to me: vs Iowa and Purdue Lynch was a combined 43-66-482 yards 6 Touchdowns and no interceptions.

Northern Illinois won more Big 10 games than Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue.

I think if I met Bodha, and he talked to me in person as he does to people on this board, Id knock his block off.

Why, because he has no clue what he is talking about or because he is so condescending about being wrong?

I wonder if he still wants to sign Vince Papale? ;)
