As mentioned plenty, not everyone loves what the Cincinnati Bengals did with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Some, such as even Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, do. Others have suggested it hurts their championship chances and diminishes Joe Burrow.

Former NFL head coach Eric Mangini fits into the latter group and suggested on FS1's "First Things First" that Burrow has put himself in a tough spot.

“He’s under a different kind of pressure in the locker room seeing that he does have this power to overrule the salary cap and what guys get paid and it puts him in a difficult situation," Mangini said. "It's nice right now, but it's not necessarily nice long-term. I also don't necessarily think the player should be driving the bus."

While there are some potentially valid points there, Burrow was in a pretty unique spot. After watching the Bengals let great players leave multiple offseasons in a row (Jessie Bates, DJ Reader, etc.), he stepped in and provided some public pressure.

In fact, we now know that pressure might've disrupted tag-and-trade plans involving Higgins.

Since the winter, Burrow publicly advocated for Chase, Higgins, Mike Gesicki and Trey Hendrickson. He'll undoubtedly advocate for more of his teammates in the future, but three of the four there are top-10 players at their respective positions, if not all four when given the chance.

Right now, Burrow isn't doing anything different from what past greats like Tom Brady have done. The fact two of his guys play the same position seems to be the hangup drawing criticism.
