i have to say that i'm VERY happy for him. team is 3-1, and his numbers so far are superstar caliber

28 ppg / 5 ast / 4 reb and a couple steals on 48% from the field and 50% from 3

good god!

btw, i read in SI that the nba has a rat pack: lebron, wade, melo, chris paul...and JOE JOHNSON. that's right, they apparently hang out together all the time...

man, if Diaw ends up being nothing but a one year wonder and the Hawks are decent and that draft pick is crap, that deals going to go down in history as Rick Robey II.

Get your sh#t together Boris.

Joe Johnson can barely speak the English language, I cant imagine him hanging out w/ well spoken guys like Wade and Lebron.

it's great that JJ is doing well, but he's doing it in a crappy team playing in a crappy conference.

yeesh - if the Hawks at 3-1 are crappy, what the hell does that make the Suns?!

The fact that he's putting up those numbers with no one around him to take the pressure off and they're winning is pretty damn impressive in it's own right.

How many times have we seen players put up great numbers on a crappy team? I'm not trying to take anything away from him, but I guess I just don't see what the obsession with JJ is all about.

Of course I'm the same guy that flip flopped on the Rose acquisition in a matter of days, so what do I know! :)

It isn't like JJ put up bad numbers on a good team. This is exactly what people should have expected. Joe is a very talented player. His numbers are inflated because he is the number one option on the team - just like EVERY other star player.

And like Cheese said, the fact he has less talent around him makes it even more impressive -- especially the shooting percentages. Defenses are built on stopping Joe, and he still puts up big numbers.

For those of you talking about it only being 4 games - it isn't like his numbers last season were that bad....

No one should be surprised that Joe is a stud in Atlanta. We all saw it coming when he was in Phoenix - we just couldn't afford to pay him.

Does this mean that Wade has Joe Johnson in His FIVE? Is Charles OK with that?

Well, they should be good enough to not be in the top 3 of the lottery. However it now looks like they will be about top 10. :(

sorry but JJ is gone and we are BETTER because of it, with him here we would never have as deep of a team as we currently do. That all happened because we let him walk, not to mention his pissy attitude wanting to be the MAN would have been a detriment to the team. LET IT GO!! He's gone and I for one don't care just like I dont care about any jerk that leaves the suns for more money....Screw Him!

i hate this nonsense about how he's an cornholio for wanting to be the man.

think about it.

what if you were REALLY good at your job at Intel in san francisco, and you wanted to be a manager. however, your current team was already set so you had to settle for being a programmer even though EVERYONE knew you could do more. now what if a podunk company in tulsa kissed your ass and wanted to pay you a ton to run their whole company. I mean, i would jump ship too!

it's called having faith in your ability and wanting to shine when given more responsibilities. i mean, cut him some slack...

What did Joe Johnson get... 20-25 million upfront and a 70 million contract. Plus he didn't want to play for Phoenix. I wouldn't write Diaw off just yet and what those two first round draft picks might produce.

Good point abomb! JJ is a good player but dominant is more than a bit of a stretch! And for the amount of money I would rather have the DEPTH we have now that would have NEVER happened here had he gotten a contract like he got!

It is sad watching JJ completely waste his talent though.

He had a shot at being a major factor in putting the suns to a title but instead chose to be a major pain in the ass over salary.

He won't be able to single handedly win many more games.

He isn't wasting his talent. In fact, if the Hawks management wasn't so inept they might have made the playoffs last season with Chris Paul. I mean if they redid the last 2 drafts their team could have been....

Chirs Paul
Joe Johnson
Josh Smith
Marvin Williams
Zaza Pachulia

with Childress, Claxton, Wright off the bench. Not to mention they could have had either Foye or Roy - or traded that pick to a team like the Magic for their pick and a player.

That team is stacked with talent, and if they get a real GM in there to build the team right they could be pretty scary in a couple of years.

How is that not wasting his talent? He is on non-contender with inept management!

For someone with his talent and some years in the league under his belt he should be on a better team and he had the CHOICE of being on a better team.

He choose the hawks.

*edit: If in a couple years the hawks are stacked with good talent then is he going to get a 80 million offer from some crappy team and once again jump ship?

It doesn't matter how good the team will be in a couple years, it matters how good they are at contract signing and a year or two after.

Johnson has plenty of time to play for a winner. I wish him well. The Suns made the best decision they could based on the information they had, and it turned out to be a mistake. No biggie, life goes on.

Diaw may prove to be a mistake for the opposite reason, although again, I thought the Suns made the right decision based on the information they had. I am starting to be reminded of Austin Croshere, whose used one good postseason to propel himself to a monster contract, then was a mediocre role player forever after.

He had a choice of accepting a hell of a lot less money to be a 4th wheel on a contender. I don't know of many players that would want that role.

You talk about him chasing just the money, I don't think that is true. He probably really feels that he can make Atlanta a winning team - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it.

I think it's still unfair to label it a a mistake on the Suns part just yet. Joe Johnson has played very well thus far and is making it look like the Suns are fools for not keeping him but we have no idea how those picks are going to pan out.
