I was less than excited we used the free pick we added on a speed WR right after signing Ginn. But after readong up on him and watching game tspe amd interviews, combined with my homer kool-aid I'm sure, I started to really like it. Apparently he's already making an impression with the coaches now too. He may very well turn out to be an upgrade at Roberts' position. At a steal

When you think about it, WR's have the best chance to make a good first impression. There's no hitting, so big guys can't show much. With WR's their speed stands out and whether they drop or catch passes. Not sure about route running, though they say that JB runs better routes then expected. And is it LT that is passing him the ball? If so, does he get high marks for accuracy? As for comparing him to Andre Roberts, another third round (??) pick, I think that JB is faster/quicker, but AR was pretty good in games. How well does JB's skill set translate to games will be fun to watch.

Agree. Game situations is where the team finds out if he can play.

Cardsfan, I do remember a rookie (Andre Roberts?) in TC that was tried as a PR, but he had a lot of trouble catching punts. Let's see if JB can catch punts.

Good point Garth but I also want to see if he can get separation from the opposing DB's and catch the ball while a defender is hanging all over him.

I too want good separation from defenders by John Brown. However, with short arms and small hands, I do not what to see him catching the ball in traffic. IMO, he is a spread the field player aside from special teams.

Tell that to Wes Welker. Small players with small hands can be good slot players.

If this kid ends up being a baller, it'll make letting Larry go that much easier to swallow. A burner on the inside and a bruiser on the outside is a good mix of WRs. Hoping for the best here.

and hell...if Larry actually agrees to take a pay-cut to stay with the team AND this kid is good, this WR corps will be devastating.

what I really like about what Arians has done on this side of the ball is FINALLY addressed it's MAJOR needs that it's had forever. Stud LT, super-speed at RB and a super-speed WR. If the Incredible Hulk and Brown pan out, this offense could be really tough to stop.

Another major need was solid TEs. It looks like we have that now also with Niklas and Carlson.

I'm cautiously optimistic with him. At the very least it gives us much needed depth. I think at this point Ginn is the definition of a journeyman WR. While he's going to contribute, it's nice to have an alternative in the wings for if (when?) he leaves.

That cut by John Brown going into his route with his body at such a lean always amazes me when I see it. There was one of Boldin once going full speed and you swear his body was almost horizontal with the ground, amazing these athletes do not pop their ACLs even more frequently... I could not do that even if I had photoshop lol

Same here. Huge difference when you put pads on and there is someone looking to take off your head.

They'd been settled on Bortles for a long time. They think he was far and away the best QB in the draft and it was a deep WR draft, as seen by Marquise Lee in round 2, and they could upgrade/add WR as the draft moved forward.

I thought Jax did great: Bortles plus Lee is pretty solid

Bortles was a great pick for him; I think its pretty clear that's the guy that Keim alluded to as to when you'd take a guy you feel would be a franchise QB in the first. He would have been our pick, IMO.
