Pittsburgh State, Kansas Gorillas-----a very good small school program with at least one national championship to their credit in football. Brown is a three time team captain who loves to go up the middle, and with his 4.3 forty speed, he is not caught once he breaches the defense. He is the speed guy that Arians has coveted. Unlike Gin, he is young, and should be on this roster for several years.

Won a D2 championship with them. I was just watching and he absolutely BURNS up the field. Very fast...didn't see much in the route running on what I've watched, seems to just blow by...seems to be a sick slot guy.

Can you imagine a 4WR set with Fitz and Floyd on the edges, and Ginn and this cat burning down the seams? I know Bruce can. Could have been 5th or 6th round though. But..if he produces I don't care.

They must have really really really liked this guy... I mean really liked him :)

This is where teams' boards are actually made by real scouts. He was picked where their board had him. Many teams boards are like this right now. Nobody knows who's going where at this point. Teams have their own scouts recommendations right now and you have to go with that.

Passed on more known names like Ellington, Bryant, Archer and Herron.

Arians said Patrick Peterson's punt returns are going to be limited going forward. "And his days as a receiver might be coming to an end."

Exactly. If he's got jets and hands he's a good pick. We know he's got jets, THEY must know he's got the hands too. Toughness.

Shades of JETSTREAM.

See, this is why I like this pick more than the others we made. It's certainly not just checking off an obvious need. It's outside the box, a potentially dynamic speed WR and KR. We need to put some fear in the secondaries we face so we can back them the hell up and run the ball better. Brown and Ginn could provide that.

Great post! Thank you! I've been writing about John Brown for a number of weeks now and the comparison to T.Y. Hilton is legit.

Yup, everyone doesn't draft in the Mayock, Kiper grouping of prospects.

That's what makes the NFL draft the best. Mining the hidden ones.

How many times has Ty Hilton gotten killed by these NFL sharks?

I seem to remember him embarrassing Sherman pretty good.

Hope you are correct. He does have the speed to stretch the field. I made my comment based on the review I cited.

They wanted Buchannon or how ever you spell it and they got Brown for free, they must have had him up there on their board. Arians has been begging for speed since he got here.

I read he was rated as a 5th to 6th rounder before the combine and then shot up to late 3rd. He isn't a reach but a late riser. Sometimes you get Eric Swann...sometimes you get Mike Mamula. Never seen him play so I will reserve judgement

NFL.com listed him as a 6-7 round prospect. Oh well, he's a third round pick now and was essentially a free pick.

whoa...a 6-7th round pick? Man...this draft better turn out to be really good, because I'm scratching my head a lot here.

Arians will put him in motion to keep him from getting jammed on the line or knocked off route. He's our answer to Tavon Austin as a WR/KR.

Jury is out on Brown, he will get his chance to prove himself.

Personally I prefer to use the round 5-7 picks on the shot in the dark prospects. I thought 2 of the next picks Trai Turner and Dri Archer could have contributed to our team next year and we still could have taken a shot on Brown later.

Hmmmm, the last time I went through these kind of emotions the pick was Ellington.

Went something like this, with about 5 minutes in between each period:

Who? Why? We just got a [position] like that. Hmm. Intriguing. Wow, that's interesting. Maybe not such a reach. Love the speed.

Now let's see if it continues because the next time I saw Ellington was at camp and I was in love.

Ellington was a 6th rounder though, right?
