His first 'opportunity,' as an OC, actually went pretty well. I think he's a better pro OC than a college HC. But Koetter is clearly in over his head as a pro HC.

Just like Dirk Koetter. Couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag at ASU and then the NFL gives him an opportunity. How has that worked out for TB? It's a joke that these guys keep getting chances.

How is Marrone a better option than Wilks (not defending him specifically)? He has a way more talented (playoff team last year) roster and completely tanked this year. They only have 1 more win than us.
Marrone is a good coach. They were plagued by injuries this year but there is a disconnect in that locker room that overtook the entire team. It is a weird dynamic. After beating NE this year, they "lost" it. People blame the offense and Bortles but their season was over after the defense allowed 30, then 40, points in back to back games against KC and Dallas. Players were fighting, Dante Fowler was shipped out, etc.

Even Marrone has said the players aren't listening this year. I'm not sure how you fix that without firing the coach, but the guy has been a pretty good coach.

Its an interesting question.

I am no expert on recruiting but I would say Oklahoma State (vs OK and Texas), Clemson (vs Alabama and other SEC), and Stanford (due to high academic requirements).

Marrone is a no nonsense, old school HC. Him & Coughlin together has to create quite the eye opening experience for a professional athlete in today's NFL. As long as they're winning, players will put up with almost anything. This team has had too many injuries to dominate in the manner they did last year. Add headcase players like Fournette (who wasn't who Marrone wanted), and locker rooms can get testy. Marrone is a Northeast kind of guy, so I expect to see him there eventually. He'd be a good coach for the Cardinals right now, but I don't see him on the west coast.

I live an hour from Baltimore & have worked that area for 25 years. Due to their successes, their fans have high expectations. Even though Flacco won them a SB, the fans have tired of him & he's handcuffed them financially. Harbaugh & Ownership have been loyal to Flacco to the point that the fans have turned their anger towards Harbaugh. Ownership still owes Flacco considerable money, so it's not just Harbaugh that has stuck with him. Similar to the case in Green Bay, a HC's voice in the locker room can become stale. Most fans in Baltimore realize that Harbaugh is a very good coach. 2 wins under Lamar J & everyone seems to be excited again. Baltimore ownership has always liked Harbaugh. He can be tough, but he's not insane like Jim & is a better coach than Jim. Would I like him in AZ. Absolutely! He's definitely one of the better coaches in the league. It'll depend on how Baltimore & Lamar play the rest of the season. The players are reinvigorated with Lamar playing. If Harbaugh returns to Flacco, it may very well be ownership that's making that decision.

I'd take Dirk as OC. Even at ASU, offense wasn't the problem...

Would rather have John Harbaugh than those options. Maybe Harbaugh HC and Kingbury as OC? A DC I would love for ARZ to pursue is Brent Venables, that man has transformed defenses at every stop in his college career. Supposedly, this is the year he may be hired as a HC as he is rumored to be on Texas Tech's short list.
Venables would be crazy to go to Taco Tech. That place is hard to recruit to and a dump to boot....

He wasn’t fired because he couldn’t beat Oklahoma and Texas. He was fired because he couldn’t beat Kansas St and Iowa St.
Oklahoma State beat him 10 out of the last 11 times I believe also.

Oklahoma States recruiting is so-so. It usually ranks in the 25-35 range. They'll get an occasional 4 star recruit or two. Gundy coaches the 2 and 3 stars up and they've been successful. Also, put a lot of them in the NFL....

Yeah, but is Oklahoma State good outside the Big 12? Because it seems like they're kind of bad. And they have a deep-pocketed booster in T.Boone.

OKST played no one good this year. Jesus.

Rumor of the day'

K K is on the USC campus as we speak. Tee Martin OC was fired.

Next up on K K interview tour is 2 NFL teams.

"
Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury has reportedly received two "firm offers" from NFL teams since getting fired on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Gil Brandt of NFL.com reported Kingsbury's phone has been "ringing off the hook" because his "superb knowledge of [fast-paced, college-style offenses] is in high demand" among pro organizations."

K K or Byron?

I agree with you that is why I hope ARZ looks into him before other schools start to get involved. I am surprised USC is not looking at him but maybe they want a coach that can make them an offensive juggernaut again, Kingsbury could be a good fit for them.

Not to mention Oklahoma is the only program in their state they’re recruiting against. Tech has to go against Texas, A&M, TCU, & Baylor.

I would ok with KK as our head coach, and Byron has done nothing to make me want him as an OC next year.

Clay Helton is being saved by a $16 million buyout clause and I don't believe Lynn Swann A D USC can save his own job by retaining Helton. K K would be the heir apparent, but by being successful for 1 year under Helton he would be uindermining his own promotion. For this reason I believe he will not be the USC A D. On to the NFL in some capacity. The NFL is enchanted by QB whisperers.

So, Sean McVay and Matt Nagy are the new model for organizations. Get a younger, offensively successful head coach and pair him with an established defensive mind. This enables the new head coach to still bring his offensive ingenuity but take some of the load off of him as he develops into his role.

A huge factor into the hiring of guys like Kingsbury and/or DeFilippo is if they are willing to bring in a guy like Todd Bowles to run the defense.

K K headed for USC says the latest breaking news.

Damn it.

Multiple sources have confirmed to USCFootball.com that former Texas Texas head coach Kliff Kingsbury, one of the hottest free-agent coaches in football this offseason, has agreed in principle to become the new offensive coordinator at USC, marking a massive hire by embattled head coach Clay Helton.

I was premature in my post. he is still on the open market, NFL & NCAA, with suitors.
