Thank you Dbacks for hiring a competent GM who is one of the best at his trade in a short period of time. Nearly every move Byrnes has made has been a solid one and he has this team poised to get back to the World Series. A year ago this time few would have believed that the team he's put together would be this good at such a young age.

I had to get that out of my system after watching the other GM's in town (apart from the Coyotes GM who seems to be pretty good) single-handedly wreck their teams

Here, here.

Although I think Sarver deserves more of the blame for wrecking the Suns than Kerr.

I agree and I'm giving the Suns a couple more weeks to figure it out. For all we know the Suns will pull off a Spurs run and win it all. Different argument for a different place (Sarver sucks)

Byrnes has been a Godsend for this organization and needed someone like him badly after what Joe Jr left us with (although I'll be forever greatful to him for the ring)

Of all people, you should know. For whatever reason your boy Kenny likes to continually get his pocket picked by Byrnes.

I was relieved when he took Javy and his tater-tots to The Cell
Yeah, Kenny Williams is a strange one. Has ring, but sheesh, he makes some terrible moves.

My college roomate is a HUGE ChiSox fan so we repeatedly argue over this topic. I'm convinced that Kenny Williams is a deal junky. The guy needs to make trades, it's unreal the amount of turnover you have on your team

I think you are right. I think he makes deals to keep in the headlines in Chicago sometimes.

I never liked baseball as much as football or basketball but I have to admit I am becoming more and more a Dbacks fan due to Josh Byrnes. It's nice seeing a front office with a vision and the ability to achieve it.

Sarver is the sole reason. Just like Bidwill. They are the ones that hired the idiot for a GM. I will say that Byrnes is reaping what Jerry left him in the farm system. When Jerry was forced out, He had a killer farm. Now they are all starting to grow up and making this team fun to watch. I'm excited about this year! :fans:

No Doubt...

We should all send Thank you notes DAILY to Josh for everything that he has done...

Seriously the D-backs are BY FAR the best run team in Arizona, and its not even close right now...

I was thinking about this the other day, I consider Byrnes a top 3 GM in Baseball. Its easy to be the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs GM, when Money isn't a issue, and you can sign and trade for anyone. But Byrnes has put together a team that is CRAZY good, YOUNG, and with GREAT character guys. All for just a shade over 52 million dollars.. or in other words, the combined 2007 saleries of Bobby Abreau, Jason Giambi, and Andy "I mis-remebered" Petite.

Its INCREDIBLE the job he has done.... and the Dbacks should do WHATEVER it takes to keep him happy in Arizona....

Agreed with all of the above, my only worry is that Byrnes uses Arizona as a launching pad to a bigger, more high profile job, I hope thats not the case.

I agree, the farm was good at certain points under JC and Joe Jr. However, Josh Byrnes knows what to do with young talent as opposed to Joe Jr.

Remember that one time when Joe Jr traded the entire system for some guy named Richie Sexson? For some reason I do

Now we have Byrnes who trades prospects for a Cy Young caliber pitcher in Dan Haren who also happens to have 3 years left on his contract.

We are in much much better shape

see.. then it wouldn't be as much fun...

It would be the equivilant of playing madden on JV.. its nota challenge anymore, and its gets repetitve and dull....

The D-Backs give him a GREAT challenge, and therefore he will stay here forever.....

Yes we are in better shape.

Also didn't Joe Jr trade some guy named Penny for someone that was always hurt? LOL

Joe Jr certainly had his faults (probably his biggest being signing older guys to big contracts), but he was pretty good at not giving up youth talent considering that the only prospect he traded away that has done a whole lot is Brad Penny (and the next time he goes 200 innings in back to back seasons will be his first). Considering that he was here for a decade, that's better most GMs.

The entire system for Sexson? They traded away a handful of scrubs along with the up and down pair of Chris Capuano and Lyle Overbay. Its unfortunate that the Sexson deal didn't work (although the Diamondbacks received decent compensation when he walked), but they hardly traded "the entire system" to get him. Let us not forget that the previous management also traded prospects for a Cy Young caliber pitcher, who happened to help win a ring. Let's hope that Haren can help do the same. The pieces are certainly coming into place.

With his lack of experience coming into the job, Joe, Jr., started as Jerry's gopher and never really grew beyong that.

Is there any doubt that Jerry continued to call the shots and Joe did the legwork?

You'll notice he didn't move on to another GM position.

I'm not saying it was right or wrong . . . but it was the case.

Just how much baseball experience did Colangelo have prior to the Diamondbacks? Yes, I would say that there is significant doubt that Colangelo made the decisions and everybody else simply carried them out. Suggesting that it was all Jerry and the rest of the organization were minions there to do his bidding cheapens the work done by the likes of Garagiola, Tommy Jones, Mike Rizzo, and so forth, all of whom were instrumental to the early success of the franchise.

Byrnes is the man!

I'm still pissed about the Byrnes extension (Eric, not Josh).

That was purely a PR move and it is going to prove to be the wrong one, especially when it costs the team Hudson.

But yeah, Byrnes (the GM) has done a pretty good job.

GM Byrnes is awesome. i have said before the dbacks must be the only competent front office group in Arizona. I love all my teams, but the Suns and Cards just sometimes dont do smart things.
