That's right, Jurecki reported today that Denny was speaking at a luncheon in San Diego, and stated that Josh will set the NFL on fire this year, and then went on to explain how much Josh is just like Brett Favre.

Denny rocks.

Oh, by the way. Josh got screwed by Troy Brown in the QB challenge. That Patriot game will be epic.

Thoughts?

Where's the bong picture?

McCown has the tools, but I don't know what to expect. I'm interested to see how well he does under pressure. We saw a little bit of that last year and it didn't look so good, but that's not too fair to him as he still needs experience. Sam Houston State isn't exactly going to teach him all that :D

I really think the game vs the Patriots will be important. I want to see how well he can read defenses and how he will adapt to situations he's never seen before. That D will give him everything. We'll know if he's the real deal by Game 2 most likely.

The one thing I did like about him was the ability to scramble. He can revive a drive by scrambling for a 3rd down conversion. Gives new life to our offense. I just hope he learns how to slide...

It's one thing to say that there are similarites between the two. Maybe there are. But that equals sign means alot. Comparing McCown and his career 63.8 rating to Brett Favre and his career 94.2 is worthy of yet another :biglaugh:

His first season as a starter, Farvre put up a 85.3 rating. McCown had a 70.3. Maybe their games are similar, but I don't see it.

I think that calling McCown anything other than servicable is a mistake.

I think that when you compare young and inexperienced players to Hall of Fame players, you disgrace the HOF player and put too much pressure on the kid as well.

I think that it was silly to have Troy Brown, even at the challenge. The guy has decent hands at best.

I think the Patriot game will be mostly Patriot fans.

I think those fans will go home mad when the Cardinals pull out an upset.

I think I will start Corey Dillon against the Cardinals.

Seriously though...

Will someone please tell DG to stop the madness? He is starting to sound like Buddy Ryan. No wait, he sounds nothing like Buddy Ryan. I hope I don't get banned for mentioning that former coach's name.

As for McCown, I am sort of looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Josh McCown is the next Brett Farve?

Nah, if Brett was QB, Shelton would've caught the ball.

You mean that the ball would have lodged in LJ's facemask instead of bouncing off. :D Man that was a Cardinal's memory that I will retain for life!!!

Here's to hoping that McCown bring us many other memorable moments (with more positive results) in the years to come.

And for Denny's comments today, here ya go :stick: :stick: :stick:

To be honest, I can't figure out why DG keeps setting the bar so high for McCown. I believe it's a motivational tactic, but I don't think it will work. What I saw from McCown in the QB Challenge actually solidifies my opinion that McCown will not be the starting QB for very long.

The drills themselves mean absolutely nothing, and McCown certainly showed well in the "athletic" events, but he certainly appeared to lacking in the maturity department as compared to Brunell and Trent Green, for example. I thought it was easy to spot that the various levels of maturity were directly proportional to age. Unfortunately, maturity is a big part of being an NFL QB. Nothing I saw suggests that McCown is not still going to be a "deer in the headlights".

The most impressive QB by far was Mark Brunell, and amongst 3 of the most accomplished receivers in the game, Boldin stuck out like a sore thumb. Those of you who think NFL people have any freakin clue what they are talking about when it comes to personnel should look at Boldin, whom every team passed on, including the Cards who wanted Bryant Johnson instead.

If Larry Fitzgerald is as good as they say, Boldin/Fitzgerald will be every bit as good as Carter/Moss.

out of the four receivers that were at the qb challenge, holt would be the only receiver that i would like to have on the team.

Yeah and Plummer is the next Montana..

Good thing the Cardinals brought in a quality QB and opened the competition for the starting QB job in training camp rather than just hand the job to their young QB that has trouble reading defenses...

Oh wait...

How do you compare a guy who has started 3 NFL games with Bret Favre? that is a real reach.

Is Denny setting McCown up to fail by placing such enormous expectations on him or is he actually motivating by doing same?

Personally, I think the former. So many people buy into Green's genius that they accept (or really want to accept) his proclamations no matter how outrageous they are. This one is baffling to be sure and the last thing McCown needs, as he is trying to learn a new system and develop a repoire (sp?) with his teammates on offense, is to have his HC spouting off insane rants comparing him to arguably the top QB in the game right now.

The quote from the paper was "McCown can be like Brett Favre; he reminds me a lot of Favre" (emphasis added). He "can be" not "he is". The question remains if he will even come close to playing like Favre before his career is over. Tall order but the jury is still out on that one. I have my doubts that he will be a starter for long in the NFL, I don't think he's that good. But, he's with the right coach to develope if he can.

Jurecki and the talking heads all are blowing the comment out of proportion IMO. The comments also put no additional pressure on McCown at all. He just needs to perform on Sundays and he will prove whether or not he can play at this level. Much ado about nothing IMO.

Oh c'mon. Brown and Mccardell are proven performers who have been to the pro bowl, and holt is easily one of the top 5 in the game. and Boldin looks to be right there with him.

On to my next point...the QB job is open. DG will play whoever gives him the best chance to win. Historically he never blindly gives someone a job and is especially quick to pull the plug on a QB.

I also got to thinking about this quote. DG has certainly been giving McCown plenty of confidence, but I think Brett Favre and "set the NFL on fire" is officially going a little far. Outside of DG's ramblings, there is no one in the NFL that really sees much in McCown and there's nothing that we've seen in games so far that suggests that McCown has even reached the level of competent.

But there's more to it than that. Boldin has come out and said that he thinks King will (could/might...whatever) start. Dexter Jackson was asked about King possibly starting and he said "DG will play the best player". Jurecki has also been confirmed with other players that King could start.

So here's the question: What is it that DG sees that McCown's own teammates, as well as the rest of the league, don't see. Certainly if we were to expect to see anything that could be confused with Brett Favre, you'd think there would be no question amongst the teammates that McCown was the starter.

DG is a notorious salesman. What is he selling with McCown, and conversely, is he sandbagging on King?

He did say "can be", but he also said McCown would "set the league on fire", which is almost outlandish when talking about a guy with 3 career starts which didn't convince many that he was even starting material.

Kinda like talking up a guy with 1 year as a starter before becoming 3rd string. Or a guy who has 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions in the last 3 years.

There's a big difference between saying "I think King will surprise you" and "King reminds me of Brett Favre and will set the league on fire"
