Josh McCown=Brett Favre

Is Denny setting McCown up to fail by placing such enormous expectations on him or is he actually motivating by doing same?

Personally, I think the former. So many people buy into Green's genius that they accept (or really want to accept) his proclamations no matter how outrageous they are. This one is baffling to be sure and the last thing McCown needs, as he is trying to learn a new system and develop a repoire (sp?) with his teammates on offense, is to have his HC spouting off insane rants comparing him to arguably the top QB in the game right now.

Would the same people here be saying he's a genius if DG was the coach of the Bengals last year before the season started? Just comparing things. Hope always springs eternal, but in all reality ya have to go inot it being very cautious. I HOPE DG can make a great team and believe he can but let's keep our wits about us.

On to my next point...the QB job is open. DG will play whoever gives him the best chance to win. Historically he never blindly gives someone a job and is especially quick to pull the plug on a QB.

DG named McCown the starter before the draft, he's built him up so much, he'll stay with him for awhile, even if he's messing up.

It's one thing to say that there are similarites between the two. Maybe there are. But that equals sign means alot. Comparing McCown and his career 63.8 rating to Brett Favre and his career 94.2 is worthy of yet another

His first season as a starter, Farvre put up a 85.3 rating. McCown had a 70.3. Maybe their games are similar, but I don't see it.

I don't think Farve tried to complete a pass to his LT either.

Green is talking too much for my taste, but, I'm pretty conservative.

I think that eventually he gets this team to the playoffs almost no matter what. Hes that good, and the Cardinals have changed their woeful ways that much.

I don't get why some praise Denny one day for the moves he makes and then blast him the next for praising his QB. Me, I like that he's pumping up McCown. What's he supposed to say??? "Um, yeah, my QB is okay for now... He's pretty athletic but he's a little dopey so I'm not so sure he's going to get the job done." What about your boss at your place of employment coming out and saying that you're "just servicable at best"? Not the best vote of confidence, huh? Of COURSE he's going to say nothing but positive things about Josh. That's the guy who's going to be running the show for him this season so he's gotta let him know that he's behind him 110%. And is what he said really that much of a taboo? All he said was that he reminded him of Brett Favre and that, because of some of his physical attributes, he CAN be like Favre. And you know what?? He just might... Why not?? Whose to say that he won't "light the league on fire"?? In fact, if anyone would know how to compare a QB to Favre, it would be Denny since he had to put up with Brett twice a year when he was in Minn. Besides, it's not like Favre was a can't-miss, sure fire stud out of college. Hell, do you think the Falcons would have traded him if they knew how good he was going to be? When it comes down to it, we just don't know what we have in McCown. The next coming of Brett Favre? Who knows... An okay option for now before we search for our next QB to get us over the hump? Maybe... An utter failure? Possibly... We just don't know. But I for one am behind him and Denny and I hope he does make a name for himself this season.

Josh McCown is the next Brett Farve?

Nah, if Brett was QB, Shelton would've caught the ball.

That is still one of the best all time plays in NFL history.....

McCown takes the snap, rolls out, under pressure, he turns and fires - backwords - off of the face of LJ Shelton. Wow. That was cool. If only I had TiVO. Damn......

Maybe someone mentioned it(and I missed it) but right after McCown was drafted Peter King mentioned McCown in his weekly column and mentioned him as having "Favre like fire"....he didn't say ability. He said he could turn out to be a steal at the time if he was properly developed.

I remember that clearly, I liked McCown in that draft although I thought we took him a round early. he has a lot to prove and I am hoping he is the answer.

Everyone says things like, "we haven't seen enough of McCown to know"; but what I have seen is that McCown has shown growth with each season and within each season.

Josh was so green coming into the league that it looked like he had just fallen off the turnip truck. But he has the athletic abilities and he has the desire and even with the "damn good coaching" that he hadn't gotten until DG arrived he showed growth and improvement. What other Cardinals player has shown the type of development that Josh has over the last couple of seasons???

Now McCown has a coaching staff that actually knows how to develop QB's and enable them to be successfull.

I for one think that McCown will take full advantage of his opportunity!

It is definitely possible Cardlogic. Its very hard to be "great" QB in the NFL, and there are a lot of mediocre ones. Saying that Josh will be "very good" is asking a lot.

However, if there is one thing about Mac and Co. that you can say they did correctly, it is handle McCown. He was not thrown to the wolves as a rookie or even a second year guy.

Now, in his third full year in the league, he's going to get his shot. Even better, he's getting his shot with a great offensive coach, and a great WR
corp.

Josh has been put in a position where he at least has a chance of succeeding (short of the O-line completely falling apart).

If he fails, its pretty much going to be on his shoulders. But I think hes going to come through. It's just my gut feeling.
