for the love of God... we cut one injured RB with bad knees to bring in another one? if that's what we're doing after cutting Beanie, it makes very little sense to me. if true, looks like we haven't learned our lesson about damaged goods.

if he's cheap enough...

Kurt Warner was considered damaged goods too. Sometimes we get lucky

just not a fan of the "exception to the rule" line of thinking when it comes to running backs who have already suffered big injuries.

Well at least Mendenhall doesn't fall down as much as a string of dominoes during the season. Oh wait, at least dominoes needs to be touched first, so scratch that.

I would definitely take him, he is an instant upgrade over Beanie.

I didn't want Beanie run out of town and had hoped we'd try to keep his feet under him by ensuring max length cleats, but overall if we can get a guy who has good physical tools that have the same limitations as Beanie who would of had one foot out the door the whole season, it would be for the better. His cap number was low and who knows how he would respond to the changes and attention to detail with the OL and whatever else might not have been addressed regarding Beanie.

Not saying Mendenhall's the savior or anything, but we need a couple tough running rb's. Someone who can stay on his feet. Someone who you can put out there during passing downs because he can stay in and block consistently and thus not tip off the opposing defense. More versatility will help make us better simply so we don't tell the defense whether we were passing or running. One of those things I really hope changes with the new regime.

That and hopefully our new OL coaches stress not to show the white knuckles, or always show white knuckles or switch it up to confuse them and show them on pass plays sometimes and sometimes not on run plays.

Mendenhall, Bush, and Jackson are the three best RB's out there imo. We obviously need a couple of running backs. If we basically in essence trade Beanie Wells and LSH for Mendenhall and Bush we've upgraded considerably.

It's not the same as having a world caliber franchise back, but we don't have that option available to us. This would be the best we could get at this time, and I'd take it.

Hopefully we land at least one of the three, though I know with us you can never project that we'd land any let alone 2 of the three.

I understand your viewpoint, the injuries are completely different. It was widely hinted that Beanie had microfracture surgery. This is performed when there isn't enough cartilage padding in the knee. They go in and drill some holes in the head of the bone causing bleeding and initiating scar tissue formation to serve as a cartilage substitute. This is much more of a chronic issue.

An ACL tear and subsequent repair (I've had 5 of them myself, and 11 knee surgeries total) is a result of an injury and can often be repaired to 100% recovery.

Unless this is a recurring thing for Mendenhall, the ACL doesn't worry me too much.

Not surprising I was actually more surprised to hear the Cards were going after Bush and not Mendenhall. I'd be alright with it, but of greater concern with me is not the ACL is that all Pittsburgh does is run the ball. How much tread is left on the tires? I was actually hoping the Cards would draft Mendenhall back in '08, he's not a bad player at all.

If the Cards actually end up signing him, it really proves to me they just don't get it! :bang:

Why would u think Cards are gonna be players. It'll be a lot if low end contracts...high risk.

With Seattle getting Harvin and 49ers getting Q...Cards are another step behind.

When was this? Too old or prone to fumbling maybe but never heard him considered damaged goods because of prior injuries.

I heard somewhere that the Steelers couldn't wait to get rid of him and was the reason he was aksed to stay away from a game this past season.

He's a talented knucklehead. If Arians can control him, maybe he becomes our poor man's Marshawn Lynch. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. I'd rather have a playmaker like Reggie Bush though.

Old Mulli would be in favor of this based on Todd Haley jerkiness, but I am trying not to like every player the Cards sign.

Thumb Injury. Which many thought was the reason for his fumble issues and why he needed gloves for added support to the thumb and added grip.

Ugh. I would not like this move. Hopefully just speculation.

Well...at this rate, it's either Ryan Williams, Powell, or A. Smith. I don't care for Mendenhall, but at this rate, he'd be the best option on the team, IMO. That is, of course, we land someone else in free agency.

I would rather sign Reggie Bush and I'm not a Bush fan. Draft a guy. Don't spend FA money on broken, mediocre players.

No, he was benched and told not to dress, decided not to show up on game day, and was subsequently suspended.
I didn't have it 100% accurate but once he didn't show up, he was done in Pittsburgh and everyone wanted it that way. At least that's what this guy on ESPN or NFLN was saying.
