We get a hometown guy who wants to be here. We get to negotiate a contract with Suggs without the worry of another team coming in and blowing him away with a huge offer we won't match. The Ravens get compensation for Suggs instead of just letting him hit the open market and getting nothing in return. Anquan gets to play for an established winning organization, gets paid, and gets be their #1 guy.

Personally I'd make that deal if it was offered. Suggs is only 26-27 years old, is an established stud pass rusher, and most importantly will be one of the "core" guys to add to an already impressive defensive nucleus. This allows us to focus on adding a runningback with that 32nd pick (we are winning the Super Bowl by the way!!).

Just a thought.

Interesting thought...

Much as I'd hate to see "Q" go because of EVERYTHING he brings to the table. The adddition of Suggs would be HUGE. The guy had (2) sacks against the Steelers playing with (1) arm!! ...And he WANTS to be here. "Q" would go to a WINNER and be paid as he deserves. ...And he's out of the NFC. I've NEVER liked trades that could come back to bite you. (ie; Cowboys.) This off-season will be intriguing with alot of decisions to be made. BUT I don't fear it. The mgmt. and the fans know what happened after the 98' season. The sour taste it put in everyone's mouth. The WHOLE city is going KRAZZY! Cardinal-mania is EVERYWHERE! Long-suffering fans across the Nation are venturing out and BOLDLY celebrating the Cardinals' success. I think Michael Bidwill is way too savy to let this all be destroyed. Note: If a deal can't be reached with Karlos Dansby, I would franchise him again. Hey, the Seahwaks did it successfully with Walter Jones-All-Pro Tackle--for years.

Pro Bowl Player for Pro Bowl player trades havent happened in more then 10 years probabl further. It does not happen in the NFL.

But lets play the game according to the scenerio laid out. This would be a very hard trade to pull off. The Ravens dont have a history of paying offensive talent for the most part. Boldin going to the Ravens still wont change his mind on the contract he wants, so the Ravens and Boldin will most likely have to get a new deal done before the trade even happens. Same goes for Suggs, we dont want to pay him the franchise tag tender amount for just one year we want a long term contract. So thats two players who have to have a new deal in place before the trade even happens. Not the easiest of tasks.

But if that task could be done to the satisfaction of all involved then yes I would make that deal without a doubt. Not only becuase I think it fills a huge need but also because I would rather pay an all around pass rusher then a #2 WR.

That's the thing that sucks for the Cards AND Q. How much can you really afford to pay your #2 wideout? There are 22 starters on a football team and a salary cap.

I would rather trade Boldin for a couple really good picks and still get Suggs because he wants to be here and we will have the $$ to spend if we don't have to pay Q, Edge & Okeafer.

That's exacty what I was going to post. But, it seems it's the exception that prove the rule. Trades like that are very rare, but in the case of Boldin for Suggs, it seems like that would truly benefit both teams.

Since Suggs was franchised last season at $ 8.5 million wouldn't it mean the Ravens have to pay him $ 10.2 million next season if they franchised him again. Doesn't it require a 20% pay raise? I can't see the Ravens doing that when they also have Ray Lewis and Bart Scott needing to be retained also.

Lewis and Scott maybe heading to the Jets. There is talk about Suggs going there as well with their DC as he rebuilds that team.

If BOldin goes there, he may be going to depleted defensive team without any core LB's. That does NOT bold well for a team who's focal point is defense.

I heard that the other day when Ryan became the Jets new coach. However, I can't believe the JETS have much cap room for 2009. Of course if Favre does retire again that should help, but then they have no current viable alternative to play QB.

I believe Suggs has an agreement with the Ravens that they cannot franchise him again. He will be a free agent.

You talk about the Ravens history like they are this long, storied franchise. They have only been around for 12 years, and most of that time was with Billick as HC. Who knows if Harbaugh would be in favor of putting more money into the offense? Frankly, I think the reason they haven't put alot of money into the offense is because the talent just hasn't been there. They put money after McNair and Mason, but frankly they haven't seen elite offensive talent at a skill position other than the 1 season where Jamal Lewis was elite.

That said, the scenario is highly unlikely for contractual reasons.

not only that, but they did try and go for a big money WR a couple years ago when they traded for TO before that deal fell through.

Was it a contractually binding agreement or just a promise they made? Either way it doesn't matter. It's not happening.

As you may recall, Suggs had issue with being franchised as a LB rather than as a DE, and part of the agreement was that he'd be free at end of year.

Written or verbal, I'm not certain, but, while more difficult to enforce - verbal contracts are binding.

Why trade Q for a FA? Why not keep Q at his current price or renegotiate and sign Suggs anyhow. If Suggs is franchised then you go after Ray Lewis or Bart Scott. I am just gonna go ahead and put "any Raven LB" atop my FA signing list.

If Q wants to stay then I say do what we can (within reason) to keep him. Otherwise, you better get at minimum a first and a third for him.

Ray Lewis and Bart Scott would be nice, but we need a rush OLB more than a coverage ILB assuming we keep Dansby. Scott or Lewis along side Dansby would certainly be an upgrade over Hayes, but that money might be invested else where if we can't get Suggs.

Where exactly are the Jets getting that money from??

And who is Suggs replacing?? Gholston?? They are going to quit on their first rounder after one year??

Plus you say they are going to get Lewis and Scott?? David Harris is also being benched in your scenario??

Sounds ridiculous.. maybe the Jets have money to get one of those guys if Favre retires but no way are they getting three of them
