i think, as weird as this sounds on the surface, that the Bethea signing indicates the Cards are going all in despite the cap issues. It figures that might happen when the Cards encouraged Fitz & Palmer to saddled up for one more ride. I pointed out on another thread that the Cards' defense was quite complex. Bethea's signing is consistent with this belief. He's a smart player who played in a similar system. The Cards anticipate he can adapt to the system more quickly than other options. With DJ & Jefferson gone this was critical. Bethea is nearing the end the Cards hope they can nurse one more year of decent performance. Bringing A Q back is a similar move. They're willing to chance Boehm at guard, since he played well in limited opportunity.

I had recommended letting Palmer & Fitz leave this year and starting the rebuild while the Cards have great draft position. The Cards surely know this is a one year window. I think the Cards will try to get a couple of impact players to start the draft. They might get 3 trading down. I don't see a quarterback being selected early. It still looks to me like they take a WR early and somewhere grab a kick returner despite signing Jeremy Ross. They likely go heavier on young O-line types in mid-draft in preparation for dumping vets next year. Figure the 2017 Cards are better than 2016. They'll likely make the playoffs if not derailed by injury, but it would take a great draft & a few more key FAs for them to go beyond the 2nd round of playoffs.

My thought on Palmer and Fitz, what happens if the Cards become NFC Champs and lose in the last seconds of the Super Bowl? Don't they both almost HAVE to come back for one more year? (Of course they win the SB, they ride off into the sunset.) Or what if in the NFC Championship a blown call costs them a chance at the Super Bowl? Obviously not making the playoffs they probably call it quits, but what about in between in the playoffs?

Free agency just started
we lost a probowl player but extended another one younger

if they were in "all in" mode they could restructured other contracts and sign a couple of expensive Free agents
but this is a strategy with not future

i think db class is deep, they can get a legit safety in round 2/3

i m sure they like Harlan Miller at safety,
te class is deep too

a qb in round1 is more then probabile

ahead of us drafting a qb i see san francisco and Cleveland trading up
i think we will end up drafting mahomes in round 1, safety/cb Kevin King in round 2 and , pass rusher or Ilb in round 3 and Kittle the tigh end in round 4

I think you're solid on this, Harry. I know the Cardinals haven't signed many new bodies or players that are really exciting, but I'm okay with that. Today is Stupid Money Day, when every team with a fat wallet rushes out to mortgage their future.

How often has that worked out in Arizona?

What seems to happen more often is we sign the big dollar guy, he comes in fat, or with an unearned swagger (thinking his paycheck = so great, I can take off plays) or gets hurt, and some lower dollar guy fills his slot. The ego in the locker room goes down, the team plays harder because they have to make up for the loss of their "superstar", and the results aren't all that different from when BDG was on the field.

This team isn't planning to draft their QBOF in the first round. They're counting on Palmer and Stanton (*cringe*) to carry them to the playoffs. I suspect they're looking in the direction of a WR, maybe a CB, maybe a big body on the O-line. If there's a kick returner to be found, he'd better have WR/CB skills, too, or they won't pick 'im high.

I definitely agree with the bolded portion. If he is there at 13 they pick him.

I really think they are filling this roster with older players to equate the age of Fitz and Palmer, with the knowledge they will not be here next year with massive cap relief compared to this season... they are in tricksy rebuild mode as Gollum would say

You may be right on these picks. The positions for sure.

I think BA&SK are cherrypicking low cost guys who can man their positions competantly if not spectacularly - to start if necessary or at least provide leadership and plug & play backup depth.

I think we'll draft a S, LB and WR (in any order) with our first 3 picks (unless our QBOF falls into our lap).

We'll probably draft one of the following at #13: Peppers, Adams, Hooker, Cunningham, Foster, Reddick, Allen, M Williams, Ross or C Davis (Our chances of landing one of those 10 players at #13 figure to be pretty good).

If we were going all in, we would have blown the doors off of Chandler Jones so we could franchise CC. I somewhat disagree with your logic.

I think Bethea and Dansby have more to do with leadership than anything else.

Calais was a great player but he wasn't a fiery leadership. If you remember in the past coaches raved about Los as a leader.

Not enough cap space to do both and fill other roster spots

All this points to a defensive heavy draft. Add leaders in free agency on short term deals to help with young defensive draft class.

Haason Reddick and Marcus Williams in the first two rounds is looking really likely to me.
