Regardless, if they want him on the roster (and it appears they do), then they need to renegotiate to lower the cap hit. There’s no way they can look at DBuc as an $8mm / yr ILB even if it’s only one year. If they didn’t want him, then he’d already be cut.

At least with Veldheer he provides nice value as a good LT and passable RT. Not sure what Deone brings besides passion for the game. He’s way too small disengaging from Oline in the run game and can’t cover RBs or TEs against the pass. An occasional big hit isn’t worth $8mm in 2018.

I don’t understand this one at all. Very frustrating!

Or they could be holding on to him until after the draft and could cut him once there are in house replacements. I don't necessarily believe that, but it is a plausible explanation.

The three 1st round picks taken in succession and have shown little to nothing. Disheartening.

My biggest complaint.

How the starting lineup is looking so far. I am still no convinced Jared Veldheer makes it to the opening day.......and I owe VermontCard a "You were right, I was wrong." if he is.

QB: Sam Bradford

RB: David Johnson

WR: _________
WR: _________
WR: Larry Fitzgerald

TE: Rickey Seals-Jones

LT: DJ Humphries
LG: Mike Iupati
OC: [Shipley/Boehm/Munyer]
RG: Justin Pugh
RT: [Jared Veldheer/Andre Smith]

DE: Chandler Jones
DT: Cory Peters
DT: Oslon Pierre
DE: Marcus Golden

WILB: Deone Bucannon
MILB: Josh Bynes
SILB: Haason Reddick

CB: Patrick Peterson
CB: _____________

FS: Budda Baker
SS: Antoine Bethea

It would look a heck of a lot better with EJ Gaines, and Jordan Matthews added in there. While I am not ready to hit a doomsday button, that is a very pedestrian starting lineup, with a lot of questions, injury risk, and a few holes with nothing to fill them.

Well when your up against a cap and had to replace your QB's and put a dent in the OL that's what you get. But didn't like Trumane Williams leaving over a seeming pittance.

They'll have close to 100m in cap room next year. They'll have to extend DJ and a few others though.

Veldheer is gone. They are trying to trade him, but will cut him if there are no takers. Keim would not have signed the other tackle if that was not the plan.

That they'd consider a trade seems more than reasonable, but simply cutting him if there are no takers is pure speculation on your part. Smith was signed for backup money.

How is that a good move, his contract just became guaranteed at the beginning of the league year. If you cut him or trade him you have an 8 million dollar dead cap hit, the same as if you just paid him to play.

Trade him for draft pick.He can`t play DB and he is not that good at being a hybrid LB.

The Cards only have 4 DLinemen who actually have actual game experience
Corey Peters
Robert Nkemdiche
Rodney Gunter
Olson Pierre

behind those guys ;
Pasoni Tasini
Peli Anau

CB
Patrick Peterson
Brandon Williams
CJ Goodwin
Lou Young
all have NFL game experience

behind them

Jarrell Carter
Jonathan Moxey

obviously both areas in need of upgrades and depth.

Yeah the starting lineup you have isn't that bad, but they are hurting a depth. Regarding the receiving group, yes they needs players who can catch the ball, but DJ and Seals-Jones will probably account for 10+ receptions a game unless the run game is acting like a bulldozer.

The coaching staff will have to be phenomenal and the injuries non-existent to be competitive this season. The first is possible. The second is improbable.
I actually think that in some areas the coaching will be improved.

Texans with a better roster got to 4-12 losing their QB. Dolphins were awful with a slightly better roster than Cards. Cards ended up 8-8. Coaching matters when talent level is not high. Lets see if Wilks can make lemonade. This is where all coaches earn their dough.

My biggest concern with the starting lineup is Health. Almost our entire projected starting OL ended the season on IR or with an injury.

However the depth of the team at this point looks pretty thin. There is still a ton of offseason to go to fill in those holes but if the season started now I would be very concerned.

Thankfully there is plenty of time left to fill holes in the roster through the draft or the second half of FA.

This is false. They could have cut Bucannon and Veldheer and had 18 mil more. They chose not to. So, money can't be made as an excuse.

Unless we draft a tackle in the first round like McGlinchey I just can't see Veldheer being released. We just don't have any other good options other than him. If we start Andre Smith at RT he will have to have constant help on passing downs. Maybe we take a tackle in the second round and try to start him day one. I still think we take a QB in round one and then go WR or O-line in the second. We just have too many wholes to fill.

We don't want him because he can't play, and you think someone will trade for him? I think he is way better than people on this board give him credit for being. If you trade him you get no cap relief, you lose all the money in a dead cap hit, so it makes no sense to cut him or trade him. It only makes sense to extend him to lower his cap hit. Which I believe will happen at some point if the cards want/need cap space.

Well you got half ur wish. They have more space now. Maybe they want DBuc longer term, but that's looking more unlikely the further we get into the league year, that it could get done.

...and it looks pretty crappy. I know the offseason is only weeks old, but this is a pretty sad collection of talent when you look at it as a group.

Are you kidding me, this is a great roster, we have a Baker, a Brewer, and a Foster (that's Australian for beer) as well as some Cash on hand not to mention a Mad Max, A Ford to drive, a Painter, and who wouldn't want Scooby around. A little bit of French with Pierre as well as some Moxey. A Penny for luck and a extra Hamilton in the wallet. This roster is Golden!

We have a slightly above average roster and the reasoning is simple... we won enough games to finish average with Gabbert and Stanton as our quarterbacks, which mean Arians gets a thumbs up too :)
