I wanted to get his opinion on Kasveharn(sp.).He summed him up in one word- AWFUL.He barely made the team last year and then lucked into 6 ints. He's a good character and nothing but a nickel back that plays safety.

Now for Reggie Kelly, he said he hopes the Bengals bring him back. He's a great blocker and just an extra offensive lineman. Not much of a receiver but will definitely help the running game.

I could have told us that.

Thanks for the input. Was wondering how the worst pass defense in the league had such a good FS.

Well, Lassiter was just short of awful and he lucked in to a ton of INTs one season too (3 in one game from a QB that later was second string in the XFL). So I can believe it...

Everything I've read about the guy is he works hard and is smart but has limited athletic skills.

Lucked into 6 interceptions? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Well, I actually remember watching a Bengals game last year and they talked about how much he had struggled during the season. They said while can make plays, he also gives a lot up. I'm guessing he wouldn't be penciled in as an automatic starter if he signs with us. I'd think he'd compete with Francisco. Neither one should stop us from drafting a FS in round 1 or 2 if that's the best player on the board.

That is correct. He said he's a good character guy and technicallly sound but just isn't athletic enough. Heck, before he signed with the Bengals he was teaching grade school.

Hmmm, he also lucked into 4 sacks, a forced fumble and 63 tackles and in the last 5 years has missed a total of 3 games.

So he's a superstar?

If he's so great, why are the Bengals (whose pass defense is horrible) letting him walk? They have cap room. They should be tripping over themselves to lock this gem up for years to come.

I heard what I heard. They said he got burned a lot, they didn't say he "lucked" into anything. He makes plays and gives them up too. But, if you want to think we found the second coming of Larry Wilson...I just hope you're right.

Well, coach Whis played 2 times against him last year.

Or he saw something in the guy, or we can officially welcome him to the madhouse.

It really wouldn't hurt to bring this guy in. I just wouldn't expect a whole lot from him. Just a guy.

Exactly. Signing him is just fine with me. I'm just not going to expect a starter or a Pro Bowler. If any fans know bad football when they see it, besides us of course, it's Bengals fans.

Pendy has a dime package with 3 safeties. He may not be the "hitter" we had last season, but 6 int. says he's a pretty good ball hawk, and we could use one.

I'm in the Cincy TV market and get a good number of Bengals games. KK reminds me a little bit of Pat Tillman. He's not a hitter like Pat was, but he plays with a lot of intensity and effort - unfortunately he's just not skilled or fast enough to be much more than a role player.

I don't really care who is. I'm not. It seems some people didn't want to hear anything negative about him. They guy has warts. Big deal, all of these free agents do. No need for people to get defensive when people point out where they are.

Scene shifts to desert
By GEOFF HOBSON
March 3, 2007

The first hours of free agency have blown through the NFL with a gale force, but the Bengals haven’t budged in the swirl of dollars that carried away Eric Steinbach and Marcus Wilkins and could send Reggie Kelly and Kevin Kaesviharn to the desert.

Meanwhile Brian Simmons began post Bengaldom with a trip to New Orleans on Saturday.

With less than an estimated $3 million to spend under the salary cap, the Bengals spent the weekend sticking to their plan of not pursuing other players and prepared to counter the Cardinals’ moves on Kelly and Kaesviharn.

Both are expected in Arizona on Sunday (Kelly) and Monday (Kaesviharn) and with $21 million under the cap, the Cards have more ammo and are looking to sign a group of solid role players for rookie head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Whisenhunt, who schemed against Kaesviharn’s work as a backup safety as the Steelers tight ends coach and later offensive coordinator, clearly has high regard for his former division foes because Kaesviharn and Kelly are among the first free agents he’s bringing in for visits.

And he’s bare at both positions.

Arizona is seeking a versatile guy who can blitz and cover to pair next to Pro Bowl strong safety Adrian Wilson. Kaesviharn’s career-high six interceptions and four sacks make him a nice fit and he could compete for a starting job with Aaron Francisco. And with no depth at cornerback, the Cards may look at him as a nickel back.

Arizona is even less equipped at tight end, where Whisenhunt plans to bring Pittsburgh’s power running game out of a two tight-end set. But the only tight end of note at that spot on the roster is Leonard Pope, last year’s third-rounder. Kelly fits the bill for a guy that can anchor the running game out of that spot.

But both players would like to come back to Cincinnati and the Bengals want them back. Depending on what happens in the desert, they may have to adjust their cap count if both return.

It has been speculated in the media that defensive tackle John Thornton’s cap number of $3.75 million is at peril, which includes a $500,000 bonus that doesn’t kick in for a few more months. But the Bengals could also re-negotiate a deal with him to lower the cap number.

The Bengals are trying to crunch numbers with a Pro Bowl quarterback who has an eight-figure cap count (Carson Palmer) with a franchise free agent (Justin Smith) gobbling up $8. 6 million.

Another defensive tackle, Shaun Smith, completed a visit Saturday in Cleveland and may schedule another trip. He met with Browns head coach Romeo Crennel and his defensive staff, as well as general manager Phil Savage.

Nice find Renz, thanks. Sounds like my analysis of KK was pretty accurate, so of I course I like this article. :)

Is this the Cardinals or Bengals you are talking about?
