From SI
Kevin Kaesviharn- Cincinnati Bengals- FS: As a versatile safety with solid overall skills, Kevin emerged as one of the team's leading playmakers in 2006. He led the team with six interceptions and his four QB sacks were indicative of his versatility. He will fly under the radar early in free agency, but look for him to land with a team looking for a dependable player later on.

I trust sports illustrated's take over a random guy.

If the Cardinals announced they were signing Bill Clinton to play FS 40 year would think it was a great move.

He is coming in Monday? I thought it was today.

Kent Somers blog stated he will be coming in this weekend. Didnt give an actual date. I think maybe the Cincy article got the players mixed around and KK is coming in on Sunday and Kelly is coming in on Monday.

Whisenhunt, who schemed against Kaesviharn’s work as a backup safety as the Steelers tight ends coach and later offensive coordinator, clearly has high regard for his former division foes because Kaesviharn and Kelly are among the first free agents he’s bringing in for visits.

We're going to HAVE TO take a LT in the first round. Seems we're banking on the starter coming out of the draft, so our pick is either Thomas (fingers crossed) or ...crap. His name is escaping me. The second best OT.

We are not going to reach for the second best OL with pick #5.
Isn't the job in the offseason to improve the team? Kevin Kaesviharn improves the secondary.

Ya think.

Some people would whine no matter who we brought in.

We need players and KK is better than a 100 year old free safety who needs a defibulator.

So he's a superstar?

If he's so great, why are the Bengals (whose pass defense is horrible) letting him walk? They have cap room. They should be tripping over themselves to lock this gem up for years to come.

Do you see anywhere in my posts where I called him a superstar? Check out his stats like I did before I made any comment. It's obvious he has gotten better with each passing year and last year was his best stat wise. For crying out loud, if you're going to beat on a guy, at least have a little information behind it. A disgruntled fan says he's bad and you take that as gospel?

I'll give him this, he sticks his head in there to support the fatties up front.

Sick!

I have a feeling that the Cards plan on Oliver Ross starting at LT. But then I thought they were going to move Wells to Center last year so what do I know?

I'm in the Cincy TV market and get a good number of Bengals games. KK reminds me a little bit of Pat Tillman. He's not a hitter like Pat was, but he plays with a lot of intensity and effort - unfortunately he's just not skilled or fast enough to be much more than a role player.

I watched a couple of Bengals games and he impressed me by playing smart. Rarely did it look like he was out of position. I think he understands the game which helps him make up for his average athletic ability. I think he fits the mold of what Whiz described when he suggested that they would like to add depth to the secondary who could compete for the starting role. Obviously this guy isn't a garenteed starter if we sign him.

I believe that Whiz has already suggested that Ross is capable of starting there. Which to me means he is the starter until we bring in someone else who is capable of playing the position.

I don't think he said anything even close to that.

I believe he said Ross would be judged with a clean slate by this coaching staff...just like everyone else.

According to this article Whiz suggested that Ross could be the replacement for Davis if Davis isn't resigned:

http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1256384&postcount=1

If Davis does leave, Whisenhunt suggested Ross could be a replacement. Ross has been a right tackle most of his career, but Whisenhunt said because the Cardinals have left-handed Matt Leinart at quarterback, the “normal” duties of a right tackle would fit on the left side of the Cards’ line.

Whisenhunt said his perception of Ross is from Ross’ success with Whisenhunt’s Steelers teams and not from the troubles Ross has had after signing with Arizona as a free agent in 2005.

“I would hope there is a comfort level from his point in terms of knowing the offense and being able to perform in this offense,” Whisenhunt said. “So yes, I have hope Oliver can be productive for us.”

From the Bengals web-site concerning KK:

Also had 1 forced fumble and 5 special teams tackles ... Made 3 INTs in end zone, and 2 of those (at Pittsburgh, vs. Carolina) sealed Bengals wins late in fourth quarter.

We read that differently...

Suggesting Ross is capable of being a starter (what Urban said) and "hoping he can be productive" is not the same (what Whiz said).

I posted about that article being very misleading. I think Darren Urban mixed his interpretations into a story along with some quotes from Whiz.

possibly

However until we pick up another OT I'm guessing that Ross is the starter at LT.
