Juwan Johnson had a decision to make this offseason. He could re-sign with New Orleans or find a new home for the first since being picked up as an undrafted free agent in 2020. As the free agency approached, he realized he wanted to stay in New Orleans, but it's not that simple.

Johnson spoke to media and told them, "something in my heart was telling me 'I got to stay in New Orleans,' but if I stay in New Orleans it's got to make sense."

It was a random late night call to Kellen Moore that sold Johnson on returning. Johnson had a simple question for who at the time was his potential future head coach. "Why do you want me really?"

Earlier this offseason, Johnson expressed wanting to be "wanted and valued," and that question directly aligns with that desire. That statement clearly shows there was a point where those desires weren't being met, but it's a new regime now.

Being able to have a candid conversation with Moore was a huge selling point for Johnson. There were no dreams being sold during the call, but Johnson was able to tell this is where he needed to be from how that conversation felt.
