What a joke the league is!

They suspend Anthony peeler for a game 7 of all things for doing the same thing, yet Malone walks away with a $7500 fine for absolutley head hunting a 6 foot point gaurd. How he snickered as he left the court was a disgrace.

The guy has driven his truck so far up LA's ass to win a title, I hope it seriously gets stuck in ****!

Go Wolves!

The NBA has absolutely no credibility. Stu Jackson can spin this thing any way he wants it, but this one stinks up the place.

How badly does the NBA want the Lakers in the finals ? Desperately bad. If Malone gets a one game suspension, Minnesota could steal a game back from the Lakers in La La Land. Otherwise, forgrt about it.

Just more fuel for the fire. The NBA is about big TV dollars and the fix is in.

Bad games and BS rulings. Look out NHL. You've got competition for the National Boring League championship.

Well, let's be realistic. It wouldn't be a Laker title without a little "help" from the league. The only recent one that they won legitimately was in 2001.

But they win, and that's all that matters, right? After all, only losers complain about playing fields that aren't level -- if you're on the side that's always going downhill, why say anything?

If Garnett had done what Peeler did does anyone seriously believe that he would have been suspended? Hell no! The league looks out for its superstars, not just the Lakers.

If you're looking for an argument , you'll have to change the subject. The Super Star system in BB blows big chunks.

However, it is for exactly this reason that I've been predicting all year that the Lakers would win the title, even when they were down 0-2 to the Spurs. Of course I didn't know specifically that Malone would get off easy for a flagrant foul, but I knew it would be something.

garrnet is the mvp of the nba. malone isnt even the 3th option on the lakers. malone is no longer a superstar. the nba has let him get by with his junk for to long it spends a message that if you are a top player (or were) you can headhunt all you want as long as you are in a major media center town we will let you get away with anything with only 50 lashs with a wet noodle as a punishment.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Malone wouldn't be suspended. He's been getting away with that stuff for his whole career, so what would change now?

The shot to Martin wasn't much worse than the knee to Hoiberg in the first half, which didn't even get a flagrant-1. The only reason the refs threw Malone out at all was because the game was over and they didn't want any fights to break out in the last few minutes.

It would be nice if the NBA had a system like soccer does, where the flagrant points add up, so Malone would be looking at an automatic suspension if he got caught another time. Of course, the way the NBA works, the refs wouldn't give him any more flagrants the rest of the way, so he still wouldn't have to miss any games...

The NBA does have an accumulated point sytem for flagrants and techs. The problem is, that the home office let's the refs know when a player is close to the limit, to make sure the Super Stars don't get hit with a flagrant that would put them over the season limit. Ain't that special?

I thought that only applied to the regular season, not the playoffs.

Catering to the 'superstars' is typical NBA BS, in any case.

I never thought about the playoffs being exempt. Good point. Sounds about right. I'm trying to remember the ref's name who was not renewed the year following the playoff game where he T'd Clyde Drexler out of a game. He never reffed again and he was the director of officials at the time. He was told people don't pay to see superstars thrown out of games. True story. About 15 years ago.

I think the foul point "clock" resets with the beginning of the postseason. If a player manages to accumulate enough points in the playoffs alone (I think the magic number is six), he gets suspended.

But I don't think technical fouls count, just flagrants.

Not much incentive there for clean play.

Clearly you have watched zero playoff games this season, or you are in a highly medicated state. Garnett has gotten zero respect from the officals throughout the playoffs, and gets mugged every game. This crap with the NBA is an absolute joke, if Laker fans could get their blinders off, they would see how much this b.s. tarnishes the league.

I don't know about that, Garnett is fourth in ft attempted. EDIT: Fouth attempted in the postseason.

Can you guess who the three are in front of him?

Shaq(easy guess), Kobe(easy guess), Richard Jefferson

Steve Francis was also not suspended when he hit Amare.

The NBA doesn't suspend players for elbows, forearms or punches unless they are hitting above the shoulders.

Garnett doesn't get to the line a lot in the regular season at least.

This is the biggest problem I have. When the league creates these rules as to win an automatic suspension happens, they tend to hide behind them. Any head hits should be an automatic suspension, but that doesn't mean they are worse off than every body shot.

For once, I would just like the league to actually look at the intent, and past history when they decide things. Not just for Malone, but for all players. They are so involved in their systems of penalties, they just don't take each situation one by one, and handle them accordingly. The league office sounds like a court room, not a place for common sense.

The $7500 fine is an insult. If thats the detorent for players not to dangerously hit each other, it's ridiculous.

I thought the league had a perfect opportunity to send a clear message to fans that they weren't so bias.

Yet they blew it.

Are you guys really saying that moving your shoulder when you set a hard pick is the same as an elbow to the face? Are you kidding me?

I just read that it is indeed reset for the playoffs, but at 3 points it is an automatic 1 game suspension. He got 2 for the foul, so one more and he gets a mandatory game suspension.

To add more testimony to the uneven treatment of players and the lack of credibilty of the NBA gods, consider this comparison.

In the last Indiana - Detroit game, Ron Artest made an obscene gesture at the end of the game. He was fined $10,000.

Karl Malone blatantly clotheslines a defenseless Darrick Martin and later brags about the intent to injure and is fined $7,500 .

Someone try to make sense of that.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but..

Even though KM's whacked a few during his career (even one of my favorite's E.P), I don't knock him for it (no pun intended).

Mainly, because I think like him. When you play to win, you play to win, and you push the envelope as far as you can. 2nd place is the first loser. Doesn't matter if it's basketball or cricket. You're there for one reason. To win. If that's not your purpose, then you need to rethink what you're doing there.

Some people don't classify that as a winner, and maybe they're right, but I don't think being a clean player and a winner are synonymous (sp), just like dirty player and loser aren't.

Anyway, at least he's honest about it, and he doesn't back down. Sure he gives em elbows, but if you don't like it, give him one back. What's the other option?

You only get punked as long as you let it happen.

I think KG's a great player, and a winner, but I think he needs to show that he's nobody's b**ch.
